As a child, every Christmas I'd be brought on a special trip to the "big city" to do our Christmas shopping, and one of the first places I'd head for was Easons. Spread over its three floors were all the books, magazines, stationery and music I could imagine - specialist calligraphy sets, textbooks, modern novels as well as the full range of classical literature, I could be abandoned to the shop for hours. Over the years that I've been going, Eason's has always kept up with the current trends - moving from tapes, to cDs and on to DVDs and arthouse movies; from mutlicoloured Filofaxes and ring binders to up-to-the-minute electronic gadgets and media storage. Their support of Irish-related literature and language tools is also exemplary - being an Irish chain of shops, they're proud to support all things Gaelic. Ultimately, Eason's is the home of everything stationery-related in Cork City - there is practically nothing you can't get there for eager back-to-schoolers or keen arts-and-crafters, and their range of products is still second to none. read more

Did my back to school shopping in this store today, like I've done in the past, but this year was my worst experience. Before all the school books were out where consumer could view and flick through them, this year everything is behind a counter. I've a child who has special needs so I've always found it handy to flick through books that I'd buy as extra help for my child during the summer. I went to the counter and asked the woman who was serving if she could pick out a few English first class activity books for me so I could see which ones would be of use to me, but it all seemed too much trouble for her. She told me that I should have names of books and publishers, that she couldn't go through everything. I explained again that I was only looking for first class English activity books but I just got a lecture about me not having a school book list. It was clear to me that the woman had no interest in wanting to help me or sell me a school book so I decided to put back the stationary items I had picked up prior to going to look for school books and took my custom elsewhere. I was really shocked Easons has always been a great place to shop with great staff, the lack of service from the particular woman who served me was so disappointing. read more
