The Earth Conservation Corps is AWESOME! This non-profit organization has been around since '92, where it all started with a small group of unemployed youth from a public housing community in SE DC who volunteered their time to restore the habitat of the Anacostia River. Now, the organization works with at-risk high school students to help with preservation and continue to restore the ecosystem. The Corps offers educational presentations, job-training, as well as volunteer-recruitment services - I am especially a fan of their educational presentations as they bring a 'raptor ambassador' (eagles, falcons, osprey, etc.) and discuss vital information! We had a LEGIT falconer with an apprentice that came to totally WOW everyone! :D The Corps has several projects/events as well, like the American Heroes River Run, restoration of the Diamond Teague Park, workforce development & youth media (for training leading to professional certifications and job placement), and, of course, the Raptor Program (learning how to handle birds of prey and to educator others!). You can also donate to this organization, in which the funds are used for workforce training and environmental education! :D
