The coaches are consistent, passionate, organized, and thorough with teaching the mini cobras. Coach John, Coach Allison, and Coach Cat are my daughter's favorite coaches! We do have a preference of going certain days of the week for a few reasons: I can tell the coaches are much more patient on Thursday-Saturday rather than Monday through Wednesday. It's also a lot less crowded during the latter half of the week. I know they do a lot more drilling in the beginning of the week, so it's unfortunate we tend to miss that time. Overall, we're very satisfied at Cobrinha and will continue to be dedicated members.

Sim is…read morea 4th or 5th degree black belt and you won't know it because he doesn't wear his stripes on his belt. He's probably the most humble BJJ professor I've ever met. I've never heard him talk down to anyone and he talks to EVERYONE with respect and kindness. He also still competes and wins! He has a group of competitors that smashes the competition and still so humble. The atmosphere when you step into the school/gym is chill vibes. You don't have to wear certain color gi's or the school gi. The team is awesome also, everyone is cool and chill. No one's trying to prove themselves and hurting other teammates. They're also great teammates by helping and giving advice. To me, I feel more like a family member than just another number coming in the doors. I have random conversations with Sim and it's not always about jiu jitsu. He cares about everyone and everyone's growth. There's a good amount of classes and several different times of day so more people can train accordingly to their busy schedules, Gi and no Gi. Ive met so many amazing people here from law enforcement to doctors, nurses, and other professionals of all ages and backgrounds. It's close to the 215 and rainbow so quick access to the freeway. There's a clean restroom and also clean showers! A lot of people come in their lunch break and then shower before they go back to work, super convenient! I definitely recommend this school/gym to everyone young and old, male or female, and they have a great kids class also! The price of membership is also less than majority of the schools in Vegas and not as good. Try a class and then sign up for 6 months (best deal & free gi) or just drop in when visiting. Today's class had about 10-12 black belts visiting from Japan, Ireland, and other places.

I was a student here for 8 years but took one year off for injury. I did succeed in earning my…read morefirst degree black belt while there. When I first started it was great! The beginners class was very structured with a quick 15minute warm up and then you were divided by your level (white, yellow or orange) and the instructors, who were either intermediate or advanced students, would be teaching either basics, forms or techniques for 15 minutes and then rotate so you got instruction in all of the categories and from different instructors. The intermediate class was structured similarly but with 20 minute sections and the instructors were advanced students. Where it started to go downhill was in the advanced class for all the brown and black levels. The owner and head instructor Jones taught that class so it didn't have the same structure. He called it seminar style but I call it boring. By the time I got to that class we actually had more advanced students than beginner and intermediate combined. You would get maybe 20 minutes of actual instruction in this class the rest of the time was usually focusing on one or two techniques and doing them in a technique line. Technique lines are definitely valuable for learning and absolutely should be done but when you're not the one actively participating in it, it gets boring as hell very fast. The only hope to try to learn something as an advanced student was to hope he wasn't teaching that night. Or since we had so few students in the other classes, show up for those and work on something with the other advanced students. This is part of the reason it takes 1 year to advance between the brown ranks and to get to black. Jones himself was an insufferable man to be around. He claimed his teaching style was "old school" and if you made the mistake of becoming an initiate or disciple, you agreed to basically become his slave. He expected you to drop everything to serve him. If you missed a single class, you better have been working because nothing else was acceptable. If he made a mistake on showing a technique and it was pointed out, we all were wrong and he was right. He made his disciples do his personal errands like drop him off and pick up from the airport; clean his pool; do his yard work. I know of at least 4 marriages that ended due to him, including his own and my own. If Jones wasn't involved in the school, it would have been terrific.
