This is actually a difficult review to write but I hope that the powers that be at the church, especially the senior pastor, read this and take action accordingly as the church can be so much better than it is.
I have been a member for many years and have tithed faithfully but I see a disturbing trend within the church that only seems to be getting worse.
Pastor Greene behaves as if he owns the church, owns the parishioners and owns The future of the church. He does not.
He does have a basically good heart but he is far too autocratic for the church's good. He is very set in his ways, absolutely uninspiring in his delivery of sermons, finds it difficult to stay on track as far as his message and finds it difficult to adhere to where he states he is preaching from in the Bible. It is often times quite confusing for us as parishioners to follow his message. Dr. Greene is in his 80s and really should be thinking of retiring from his position as senior pastor. He happens to have other pastors in the church such as Pastor Smith and pastor Eric Jackson who are both much more adept at giving a sermon and and giving inspiring messages that are not difficult to follow. The problem is that for whatever reason and I suspect it has to do with ego more than anything else, Pastor Greene does not give the other talented pastors at the church enough of an opportunity. The membership at the church is rapidly dwindling but when you think about it, Pastor Greene does not give a reason for the church to grow. There have been several instances where he appears to be completely out of touch with reality such as when he wanted to construct a gymnasium or youth center when the fact is there are no youth or very little Youth at the church and certainly none that attend regularly.
A few years ago a young man decided to join the church in without even speaking to the members, Pastor Greene decided that that young man would be the head of the youth ministry at the church! I'm sure the young man was as surprised as anyone else as there is no youth ministry at the church and to be honest with you, no one has hardly seen that young man since.
The membership continues to decrease because there is no reason to attend the church as it is. People want to go to church to hear and inspiring message that affects their lives and if Pastor Greene retired from his position her at least stoped trying to be a one-man show and insist on everything and anything his way or the highway and allow his other pastors to deliver an inspiring message, I am sure the parishioners would get other individuals to come to church. It was a time when a young couple came to dedicate their baby and my doctor Greene found out that the couple was not married, he publicly embarrassed him by making a big deal out of the fact that they were not married when he should have just dedicated the baby and perhaps spoken to them behind closed doors if he felt strongly about that. That couple has never been back to church and I certainly do not blame them.
Dr. Greene does own the church nor is he the last word; he is simply the senior pastor. Even if he placed his name on the mortgage, it does not mean that he owns the church or gets to do things only as he would like to do. Sunday school used to be such an amazing part of the church and one by one, many of the best instructors that we had have felt unappreciated to the point where now Dr. Green is left to do most of the teaching and he simply does not do a good job at it. I respect our senior pastor and respect what he has contributed to the church but there comes a time when we all need to move on from the way we've always done things and he has reached that point.
He needs to put himself aside and truly put the church and his congregation first and allow someone else, better qualified, to take the helm and allow the church to grow as I know it can. This review is written with love and concern. read more
