Ah, the Friendship how I love thee, let me count the ways:…read more 1. Just look at you, your imposing facade set back from the road puts other pubs to positive shame 2. You are a cheap enough pub to let us get merry without breaking the bank ... much, but thats my fault 3.Your barmaids are lovely and young, and went to my high school and I know that you treat them well 4. You remind me of a cross between a travellers' half way house and where Elrond from Lord of the Rings might live 5. Your magic extends to the skies as on a sunny day it is lovely to sit on those well placed benches of yours out front FIN

Having been regulars under the previous management, we are very disappointed that the new LandLady…read moreis afraid of dogs and it is no longer a dog friendly pub. We have 2 Alsation dogs, who the LandLady admitted were well behaved, but she asked us not to bring them with us again. This venue must not be advertised as being "Dog Friendly" anymore. The LandLady claimed our dogs were scaring children. We were sitting outside in the beer garden and one of the two children in the beer garden came over to stroke our dogs. The little boy was only a toddler and he loved them! Our dogs enjoyed him petting them, the only other child in the beer garden was a young girl approx 13 years old, she didn't have any interaction either good or otherwise with our dogs. When asked about which child was scared of them, she said it was herself! We had eaten meals and had 2 rounds of drinks prior to being asked not to bring the dogs ever again. They had done nothing wrong, to warrant being barred other than being big dogs. My partner and I were deeply offended and will never return with or without the dogs.

The bar area is small and cosy, and in the back there's a small restaurant. But the real star here is the food... oh my, it's simply wonderful. Home made, beautifully presented and full of flavour which makes everything else look bland. It can get busy at weekends, so book a table in the restaurant to be sure of a seat. Nice crowd of mixed ages.

It's a great place to eat as you know your always gonna get good food. They do special offers like two courses for £11.95 and if you buy a burger Monday -Friday before 6 it's £7.95 with a free drinks. I have had the chillies which was really bat little spicy when I had it, the curry is really nice too and you get rice and nann bread with it. I like bringing my little cousins hear as they're really good with children and they like the food too they get a kids packs so keeps them entertained while they wait for the food. The pub is really clean and tidy and the decor is nice for a pub it's got a nice area seating area outside if it's nice and there is a big car park atvthe side.

It is ideally situated, just off the main road and has a large car park. The outside of the pub is very impressive. It is a grade 2 listed building and was once owned by the Holt family of Joseph Holt's brewery (and is still ran by them to this day). The inside is equally as impressive with the restaurant being very nicely laid out. The food menu is your typical pub grub. I ordered the Joey burger, and whilst I wasn't wow'd by it, it was OK. Most of my family went for more traditional dishes such as Cottage Pie or Steak and Ale Pie - they all looked and tasted good. The dessert menu was good also - the Oreo cake was a winner with my niece and i may have (definitely) scoffed a chocolate fudge cake. I would recommend this place for a bite to eat if you're local.

When I order steak, I always ask for it blue or as rare as the chef is happy to cook it. I rarely get it blue. So far the only places I've eaten that are happy to cook it that way are The Grill on The Alley and The Grill on New York Street. Until last night..... The White Horse is our local pub, just five minutes walk down the road and my other half and I have been in a couple of times since its refurb for a couple of drinks. Its a lovely homely pub with alcoves off and although open plan it feels like an old country local. Yes the decor and furniture is all new but it doesn't feel sterile and lacking personality like some do when they've been done up. Its a really lovely atmosphere in there. There was a football match being played on the various TV screens and a quiz after the football so it was understandably busy for a Tuesday night. For me that just added to the atmosphere. My better half likes it as it serves cask real ales, some from local breweries too, a nice selection with little samples on each pump so you can see the colour and clarity of each ale. A nice touch. The menu itself is lovely, from classics like cod and chips to orzo pasta salad and sharer plates. I fancied rump steak and my fella had Hunters chicken. Despite how busy the place was it didn't take long for the food to arrive. The steak I had was a lovely thick piece that I was surprised to see had been cooked blue to perfection. Melt in the mouth, tasty and juicy. In fact my tastebuds are tingling now just thinking about it! The hunters chicken looked and smelled good too, and was very good according to him indoors! We also had a pud each, millionaires cheesecake and profiteroles which were both absolutely divine. Profiteroles were coated in chocolate and filled with hazelnut cream, a nice twist on a classic dessert. All in all a really beautiful meal, the quality of the food is excellent, the prices reasonable, and the staff are friendly and gave exceptional service, especially given how busy it was. I'm pretty sure we'll be eating there more often, it really is a gem of a place.
