However, customer service was great, and since I have a loyalty card I got a free sample with my purchase. I also had to collect a package that I had ordered online, no problems and great customer service there too.

Personally speaking, I'm not keen on the layout of the shop. It's not very pushchair friendly, with the tiny lifts, stupid couple of steps at the back end, revolving doors at the back The different departments sort of blend into each other too so it's not always easy finding what you're looking for. That said, you can get some good bargains and those hard to find buys (hats for weddings, etc) are usually hiding away somewhere ! There's a cafe and toilets which is handy if you need a break.

I always thought M&S sold more traditional types of clothing and never really shopped there except for the lingerie. But I have a love and nostalgia for Marks and Spencer and was glad to hear they reinvented themselves and came back a stronger retailer. I have such fond memories of this old English institution that I wanted to shop at M&S upon my recent visit to England Voila! There it was, in the Queens Mall. The Hastings store is one of their smaller ones, with a Food Hall almost the same size as the clothing area. Lucky for me!I had hit the jackpot..this store had three different sizes of chocolate rolls(the UK equivalent to Yodels...better quality and taste and fewer preservatives). Not only that, they had different flavors. And jam, chutneys, condiments galore. The Food Hall sells everything, from raw meats and seafood to cooked fast foods you reheat to cakes and pastries, fresh and frozen. M&S was the only place we found clotted cream! And breads and scones to spread the cream on. Even at 5 pm the scone was fresh and delicious. There were boxed chocolates, gourmet and bars. Beer and wine bottles on endless shelves..Everything was reasonably priced and the service so friendly. Wow and more wows. Forget Top Shop. What clothing retailer has fruit gums and sushi and fresh food, packed and loose! If I get lost in England I want to live in a M&S. Forget dining out when you stay at a hotel. Get a kitchenette and sample the food from M&S. Oh, and yes, we did shop the clothing area before I ran in glee to the Food Hall. The clothing seems younger, more trendier. My bf picked up some striped tees that he was so happy with that upon his return to the US he bought more online. I picked up some lingerie that was fab. What we found was good value for the quality. Vive Marks and Spencer. Now will you open up a store in New York already???
