This was one of the least convenient cruise ports we've visited. There also seemed to be a significant amount of unnecessary walking throughout the terminal, so comfortable walking shoes are definitely recommended. That said, the staff members we encountered were friendly and helpful, which improved the overall experience. The signage and traffic flow around the terminal were somewhat confusing, and our Uber driver had difficulty determining the correct drop-off location, leaving us farther from the terminal than expected. We only used this port for embarkation and did not experience the debarkation process, so I can only comment on the boarding experience. While it wasn't a terrible experience overall, the layout, wayfinding, and accessibility challenges made it less enjoyable than many other cruise ports we've visited.

It's true they often have several ships in port during peak season, but you have to be responsible for planning your timing efficiently. It's no fault of the port if people arrive late then get frustrated that they can't move through international customs in 5 minutes. That's simply not a realistic expectation. For experienced travelers, with realistic expectations of travel times, border crossing times etc there is nothing about this port less efficient than any other busy port. It's also very conveniently located close to any downtown accommodation, close to transit and lots of taxis all the time. For extra convenience there is 1 hotel attached to the terminal, one directly near across the street and many many more close by.

I rarely use the Oakridge branch of the VPL (Vancouver Public Library) as it's not near where I…read morelive or work, and I'm not in the area much in the first place. However, the odd time that I'm in the area and also need to return a book, such as today, I'm happy that it's there. (It's great having library branches all over Vancouver, yet there isn't one near where I live!) The Oakridge branch is small, and I assume old, from its appearance, but it has everything that a library needs: WiFi, computers, power outlets, tables and chairs, bathrooms, and of course books and movies to borrow. While it may not have as much of a selection as the Central Library branch, it has a decent collection if you're just popping in to see what they have (I always find something worth borrowing), and you can order items from other branches anyway. Because it's smaller, it's less crowded than the Central Library, and it's actually easier to find a desk, power outlet, or computer to use, even though they have so few, due to the library's size. And it's quieter too. Despite being a small library, the Oakridge branch has decent hours and is open seven days a week (some smaller branches are closed one or two days a week), and is open until 9pm on Fridays, later than the Central branch, which closes at 6pm on Fridays (which has caused me many inconveniences, especially when I was a student). Two other things I like about the Oakridge branch over the Central branch is they don't have those stupid book return machines that are slow and make a two second task into a five minute ordeal, and I have never been verbally or sexually harassed by creeps, or gaslighted security guards (in fact, they don't have security guards here, standing around doing fuck all when you need help, and then accusing YOU of being the problem when you tell a creep to leave you alone.) While there is quite a bit of seating, it is almost all full with clientele and tutors. It notice that a lot of the libraries have a number of tutors working out of them, be nice if the library could make some money from their use of the public facilities. Staff are helpful, washrooms are huge but only 1 person at a time so can get backed up, and the access to the mall for snacks and free parking is appreciated.

The Kerrisdale Community Centre has a nice indoor pool with lessons for everyone from beginners to people who just want to play in the water. A single visit to an adult to the pool is $5.36. In addition, the centre has a fitness area with a one month pass for adults that cost $30. There is a large basketball court, a youth area, and loads of activities for per-school and school kids. There is also a seniors center and a library under the same roof. I would highly recommend stopping by the centre and grabbing the Recreation Guide with all the details of the Kerrisdale Community Centre. It is well worth your time. I went just a couple of days ago to just sit down in the lobby area and watched people walk by as I studied for a major exam. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Their were several people in and out of the centre of all age groups. There was even a birthday party in one of the rooms that is for rent. Every time I've interacted with the staff, they've been the absolute best! Helpful, kind, and clearly happy to work there. My only negative about the location is the washroom. It's normally pretty clean, but the location is not great. They don't have paper towels, only a hand dryer, and it's so close to the rest of the library that you can often hear when it's being used. It's not that big of a deal, but makes me not want to sit as far away as I can get.

However, it's near my boyfriend's house, so it's convenient for me to drop off books when in the area (I love how you can return books at any branch), and unlike the Central Library downtown, my primary library, you don't have to use those horrible, slow, often malfunctioning scanners to return books; just hand them to the librarian/leave them on the desk. And like all branches, if the library is closed, you can return books in the drop box. Even though it's a small branch, having a library in an area I frequent is always a good thing. On Friday I needed to print something, so I used the printer at the library, and I also found just the books I was interested in -- travel guides for Portland and San Francisco (I have an upcoming trip to Portland and San Francisco June 28 to July 8). If I lived in the area and this were my primary branch, being small and having limited books wouldn't really matter, as you can request any book in the VPL system to be delivered to any branch of your choosing.
