I noticed that her welcoming demeanor was also shared by her colleagues who were waiting on the other tables around us. My family took Lily up on her recommendations, and we ordering one Klara and one Willi, each with a side of sausages, as well as one original tarte flambé and one vegi tarte flambée. The food was all very delicious!! My personal highlights from the meal were the sausage dipped in the Willi cheese along with the onions and potatoes that were served with the dish. The tartes also had very thin, yummy crusts topped with raclette cheese. The side of pickles provided a tangy contrast to the rest of the meal which I liked. We ended our meal with a warm chocolate cake and lemon sorbet. I'm not really one for alcohol, so I found the vodka in the sorbet to be a bit too strong for me. However, the chocolate cake with the jam and vanilla ice cream was very good and had just the right amount of chewiness. I wish that I could replace my local Cheesecake Factory with a Raclette Factory instead so that I could enjoy Swiss cheese melted over bread, sausages, and potatoes all the time. Pretty underwhelming. That being said, the food was good. We had plain, garlic, smoke, and white wine cheese - the most noticeable was the white wine. The others were pretty much the same to us. Our waiter was pleasant and the atmosphere... a bit casual and resembling a chain. Pricing? It's Switzerland, so you know you're going to spend some bucks, but comparatively speaking, it was cheap (ER).

It's about 10 km from downtown, and 11 minutes by trains that run every 15 minutes (and there's a direct train to the airport.) But all the hotels in Zurich are really expensive, and the Sonne is charming AND... If you walk up the main street, and follow the stream called the Tobler, you come to a ravine trail that is wonderfully Swiss. The waterfalls are sculpted, there are arched bridges over the stream, and this time of year there are teams of civic workers in the forest valley blowing away the leaves! (Even other Zurich residents think this is a bit much.) Up and down is about 15 km with 220 m vertical, and just a great way of working off your Zurcher g'schnetzlets mit Rosti!

The local white wine had just the right acidity to cut through all the richness. Dessert was merengue atop ice cream--a touch too sweet for my tooth, but nice. Watching the transformation of the cheese from perfectly aged wheel to plated drips of delight was the real highlight. My diet died for a good cause tonight!
