This review reflects my experience during that visit and the aftermath. I want this on record because the clinic declined to meaningfully address it, and I believe incidents like this only escalate when no one speaks up. My dog, Chop, has been under the care of this veterinarian for years, and I've spent nearly a lot on his medical. I am deeply invested in his health, which makes the experience all the more shocking. 1. Confusion About Role During the Visit During my visit, technician Sarah Spadoni spoke in a way that led me to believe she was the actual vet. She referred to "her clients," provided medical guidance, and presented herself as the authority during the conversation. Because of this, for about a week afterward I believed she was the new veterinarian at the clinic. I later understood that she is a veterinary technician, which made the interaction confusing to me. Veterinary medicine has clear professional roles for a reason, and during this interaction those boundaries were not very clear from my perspective. During the same conversation she questioned where I obtain my dog's heartworm prevention and expressed concerns about medication obtained outside their clinic. In that discussion she said she believed the medication might not be legitimate and questioned whether obtaining it outside the clinic was legal. I left feeling that if I didn't buy his treatment from them specifically, it might somehow be less effective in preventing heartworm. She also asked about my home location and said she wanted to know the exact area where I live so she could inform her "other clients" to avoid walking in that area due to potential heartworm concerns. That request made me uncomfortable, as I don't want my location shared with others. Overall, the interaction left me confused and uneasy. 2. Medical Advice Later Contradicted Ms. Spadoni provided information that was later contradicted by a veterinarian. Being wrong is one thing; providing information with total certainty is another, especially when pet owners trust staff to know their limits. 3. Improper Handling and Interrogation At one point, my dog was held by staff while my mother and I were questioned as if we were being investigated. This was not standard communication or restraint. It felt improvised and unnecessarily adversarial. 4. Accusations from the Office Assistant When I attempted to address the situation with the office assistant, it escalated immediately. She accused me of negligence and of essentially causing my dog's past heartworm infection "on purpose," despite clear medical records, imaging, and years of documented care. She also made comments that left me with the impression that maybe my dog should be handled more roughly because he was "poorly behaved," something no licensed veterinarian has ever claimed about him. This level of escalation without listening is alarming, especially given my long-term commitment to this dog's care. Why I'm Writing This This review is not meant to start a debate. It is intended to establish a public, timestamped record of what occurred. If future clients report similar behavior, they can reference this documentation. Veterinary care requires competence, clarity, and appropriate boundaries between techs, managers, and veterinarians. Those boundaries were not upheld here, in my opinion. I am updating this review because new issues have come to light, and I believe it's important to have them documented for both myself and others. Let me also preface this by saying that I had no issues with Dr. Ferrell herself, as she has always seemed kind and considerate toward Chop. My concerns are specific to the behavior of the technicians and the office assistant. The day after the incident, the office assistant called my mother, apologized for how she and Ms. Spadoni handled the situation, and asked for Chop's care to resume. While I appreciate the acknowledgment of mistakes, we declined and chose to move to a new veterinarian. Months later, after repeated attempts to get us to return were declined, the clinic included commentary about our interaction in his medical records that I believe was inaccurate and did not reflect what occurred. I was concerned it could complicate his care with other providers. Thankfully, the new vet did not rely on those notes. These actions have raised serious concerns. I have contacted the Indiana Board of Veterinary Medicine and the BBB and am prepared to escalate further if necessary. We have now found a vet who specializes in Chop's breed. My dog has had a difficult life, and the last thing I would ever do is put him in the care of people who made his care more difficult than it needed to be. read more

My parents animals have been patients of the vet for at least 25 years. She was their dogs vet in Hammond before she moved to Dyer and my parents followed her. (The vet is a friend at this point) My mom took the dog for her yearly check up and was told that there was a lime disease shot that requires a booster. My mom said okay give it to her she just needs to come back in a few weeks for the booster. My mom paid the bill and that was that. She went back to get the booster and was told it was a 70.00 something dollar charge. The office called my mom in her car to tell her the charge and that is when my mom asked to speak to Molly (vets name also my moms friend) She reamed my mother for calling the vet by her name. Said it is unprofessional and you will not call her by her name. She has her doctrine and you will address her as Dr. My mom said what. This pissed my mother off as it would anyone. No need to talk to your customers like that period. My mom said I want to know why you are charging me an office visit (she assumed that what it was). She said she was never advised that there would be a charge when coming back for the booster and I didn't bring my check book so can I mail you a check. The woman was very rude and said we better have payment by the end of the day. So that is where I come in. She called me so upset by how she was talked to and about the payment. My mom pays all her bills and if they would of just looked at the computer and seen the records it would confirm this. I called them and asked for the manager, her name was Katie. I told her what was said to my mom. She agreed with how her staff handled my mom. I was told it is very unprofessional in an office setting to address a Dr. by there first name. (well she was on the phone not in the office and once again look at the records this is my mothers friend not just her vet so there is a friendly relationship there. I was not nice about it at all. I asked her why they were charging her for an office call and she said it isn't an office call the Dr. require the animal to be looked at to make sure no open sores or any issues. I said what .. she was just there 3 weeks ago. I paid with my debit over the phone and asked for all the records and close the account. My mom will never be back. I'm sure at this point that Molly has no idea what has transpired. Very sad. I see that we are not the only patients that have had these problems. read more

If this clinic represents the standard of veterinary care, the bar must be somewhere on the floor. I came looking for professional veterinary care and instead got a demonstration of how confidence can exist without competence. Watching this exam made it very clear that having medical equipment in a room does not automatically mean anyone in it knows what they're doing. My cat was traumatized by the way he was handled. They were unnecessarily rough on him. This is the calmest cat in the world and the fear in his eyes when they were finished was heartbreaking. They were not able to give me any answers, so I basically paid an astonishing amount to have my cat treated badly. I've had MULTIPLE people warn me about this place, but I needed to get my cat in somewhere quickly and this was the only place that didn't seem to be booked out. Now I understand why that is. The most reassuring moment of the entire visit was realizing we could leave and find a different veterinarian. read more

All one has to do is read the reply given by the manager of DAC Katie Q, and no more needs to be said. The staff (and apparently Katie) at that place are rude and defensive when questioned. The one tech I dealt with over 3 visits was not all that proficient, or empathetic to animals. The vet on duty for my appt, is not listed on the website, and I cannot recall her name, but she entered the exam room and began speaking with the tech before she even introduced herself. When I left, I stated I would call to scedule my next appointment. The print-out given me when I left began with: "Since you decided not to schedule your next appointment today, we can't guarantee a time for you next week"....Katie needs to assess the conversations, and communications that go on between the staff and the clients. RISKED MY DOG'S HEALTH -- I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLINIC. This is my personal experience and opinion of Dyer Animal Clinic. Updated: Based on my experience--and after reading similar reviews-- it's clear there are serious issues with this clinic's leadership. I was shocked to be treated with hostility and threats simply for advocating for my dog. This team threatened to withhold medical communication with the vet, refused to provide a prescription despite vet's approval, pressured a purchase from their store, and ignored basic ethical responsibilities--potentially risking my dog's health because I sighed wrong during a call. My dog developed unusual stools (suspiciously after getting new meds from this clinic.) He was diagnosed with a condition requiring dietary changes. The vet said she'd send treatment by Thursday morning. Nothing came. I followed up at 1:30 p.m., then again before close. I had also emailed helpful nutrition information about his food. When the assistant manager finally responded, she said the doctor was busy, then complained that I emailed nutrition info. I said, "Okay" and sighed out of worry for my dog. She asked if I had concerns--I said yes, my dog's health. She said I was being "unkind," that the doctor didn't have to speak to me and suggested I go elsewhere. What ethical DR would not follow up w/ treatment for a paying customer?! Instead of focusing on treatment, she focused on my tone, referenced a "nice" policy I don't recall signing, and pressured me to apologize or risk being cut off from the vet. I nervously laughed because it was so inappropriate. I told her I would not apologize for something I didn't do. I won't apologize for advocating for my dog. The doctor eventually called but brushed off the situation, saying asst. manager was "just being direct"--odd, considering that was the exact reason I was accused of being rude and that was exactly the behavior they claimed was unacceptable from me...While she gave advice, it felt like following up was a chore for them. Thankfully, I had access to my previous vet and quickly found a new one. Both requested records from Dyer, since I had no intention of ever returning. A few days later, I called about treats (per Dr's advice) that needed approval on Amazon and asked for a receipt. The manager answered with hostility. When I asked about the prescription approval, she said they "don't do third-party prescriptions" and you can only purchase from their store--but IN law requires they provide your prescriptions upon request. When I shared my concerns about threats directed at me that were seemingly unethical and illegal, and she said, "Oh, I've been waiting for you to call me." She refused to listen and wouldn't address the core issue: my dog's care and their service. I said I wasn't giving them any more money or business and wouldn't ever bring my dog back. Her response? "You're terminated." (Umm...I had already terminated the relationship.) She then refused to send my dog's records to me directly and told me to "have your lawyer contact us." They sent a "termination letter" claiming communication was "impossible." That's absurd and not true. The impossibility came from their refusal to provide timely care or professionalism. I followed up to request a refund, since the manager said she couldn't give me what I had paid for. Instead of processing it, they claimed I called to "continue the argument." They finally sent records, after reminding them it's illegal to withhold them, which were filled with subjective, biased commentary--completely inappropriate for a clinical record and potentially harmful to future care. Is that ethical? Legal? In my opinion, this clinic's behavior was unprofessional, unethical, and possibly in violation of client rights. To management: If you're more concerned with power trips than pet care, you're in the wrong business. To ownership: You know this is happening and choose to ignore it. DO NOT take your pet here. I'll start by saying I put my trust in vets to make sure they are taking care of my babies properly. This vet does NOT care about your animals they ONLY care about taking advantage of you and making money. I took my 7 year old Maltese here in 2019 due to her having seizures. I can't remember what they said she had by it was going for cost $300 just to test her and then $90 a month for her medicine. Fast forward to 2020 and a different vet it turns out she just has hyperthyroidism which is easily treatable and not expensive or nearly as life threatening as whatever else they said she could've had. She would've died if I hadn't gotten her properly diagnosed with elsewhere. FAST FORWARD TO TODAY. My boyfriend took his foster fail to the same vet unknowing to me. On Tuesday 9/10 he went in with a fecal sample due to the dog having a lot of worms. They charged him $200 and under the impression he was getting dewormer medicine. He went back today because the dog STILL had worms in his poop 9 days later and they informed him that they never actually gave him deworming medicine. What did he pay the $200 for?! So not only is this putting the foster fail at risk it's also putting my elder Maltese at risk of getting fleas and worms because he was never properly and we were under the impression he was. The staff, well, they need lessons in customer service, etiquette, etc. Flip technicians who talk over you while trying to discuss an issue. I was charged 300+ dollars for them to tell me my cat had a yeast infection. I don't feel that a biopsy hair scraping and everything they did was necessary It was only done for more expense. They should've been able to do a little scraping look under a microscope and tell me it was a yeast infection, I will not go back to them. We loved our visit to Dyer Animal Clinic. My partner and I were looking to establish a regular veterinary office for our little Goose and chose to try this place. From start to finish everyone was wonderful! They answered my puppy questions and made Goose feel welcomed and safe. We are all so grateful for the doctors and staff here. We even got a puppy package and a welcome gift, which Goose enjoyed the toys and snacks out of! I would absolutely recommend and Goose is looking forward to his next appointment! Dear Animal lovers: I have just encountered what cannot be explained by business or etiquette standards. Both my dogs have been patients with the Dyer Animal Hospital beginning with Oslo in 2019. Today, with the owner present, the twenty to thirty-year-old manager threatened to call the Dyer police department to escort me off the premises because she insinuated that I pointed a finger at her. I did not, didn't even raise my voice. None of her staff confirmed her statement, but the owner went with her story. I guess the clinic doesn't care about losing patients. "We are booked out until the end of the year," claimed the manager. They don't need the thousands of dollars that I had paid in full for previous services. Now those of you who know me and my reputation can't imagine that I would ever use any malicious words, but maybe polysyllable words that she couldn't understand, to make my point. Why bother? I only came in for flea/tick medication that I had ordered a week in advance and was treated with the third degree. "You can't just walk in and order medications." I didn't. The bone of contention: I called last week to order flea and tick medication to be picked up on the 9th. I had emergency surgery and couldn't pick up the medication on time. I walked into the practice (stitches in tow) to pick up the medication, and they had no record of the call. The manager said she would waive the fee for the walk-in. Repeating over and over again that I just couldn't walk in and order medications. I pointed out that I had made a call, record of the call on my phone, discussed removing a tick, and ordered the medication. She indicated that I didn't get the name of the staff member, so I guess the call was never made? Maybe the power has gotten to her head, maybe she is having a bad day, and maybe everyone should consider where they send their pets if they are to be treated like common criminals. So please, let me know of any reputable veterinary clinics in the area where I can take my dogs and be treated with decency. Up until now I had been very happy with them BUT they went too far yesterday. I took my cat in for his rabies shot. Told the assistant that's all I wanted. My cat is not use to traveling and made a mess in the crate. They offered to clean it up. At the time, I thought that was very nice if them. BUT they took it upon themselves to run a test on it without discussing it with me. You are sent to your car. They call you and read off a list of stuff and tell you what your total is. Last night I looked at my bill. That's when and how I found out that they ran a test, then charged me $65 for the test without talking to me about it. I called the office today. Office manager basicly said it's my responsibility to look at the bill and comment on it then. Even though I'm in my car and not given a bill until AFTER I have paid the bill. If I had noticed it before hand, then they would have taken it off. But because I'm a day late.... too bad, so sad. Sent an email of complaint. They said they questioned the assistant, and she said she disscussed it with me and I agreed to it. So now, the assistant is lying to cover her butt. When a procedure or test is going to cost thst much money, they need to get a signed permission. I'm a retired senior. That $65 is a lot of money to me. It may nothing to them, the office manager, but to me it is. As I'm sure it is to many others. So if you use them, insist on SEEING the bill BEFORE paying it. Horrible experience with the manager today. Very rude and would not allow me to speak to the Vet when I requested. I have been bringing my dogs here for years and they have always allowed me to participate in their check up. Today I was told another tech would have to hold and muzzle the dogs even though I have always been allowed to do it so the dogs can have less stress during the visit. Then was very taken aback that they're still using pandemic protocol when the entire country is wide-open and Indiana was the most unrestrictive state in the union during the pandemic. I have brought three of my pets to this doctor and been less than pleased with the services he provided each of the animals. First, he diagnosed our eleven year old cat with diabetes, which we were thrilled he found, but then incinuated that it was best to put him down. Although that may have been the quickest, most painless solution (which we ended up doing nearly one year later), we JUST found out his diagnoses and were not prepared to put him to sleep. Next, we brought our dog there who is the most gentile animal I've ever seen (and I've had other dogs, horses and worked at a vet for several years). He was a little harsh on the dog when trimming his nails and the dog moved to snip him, he got even harsher and said I needed to muzzle him from now on. I understand the safety issues, it was just a very intimidating and harsh feeling. Lastly, the worst of all...our two year old cat was having hair loss and skin irritation. After two visits that cost us over $100 each with testing and different medications each time, and a $225 five day stay with more testing, the doctor told us that if we wanted to keep pursuing it, we should see a specialist since he was stumpped. He did not make the recomendation call to Purdue immediately and explored another clininc ourselves. Not grasping the amount of money we were spending, we took our cat for a second opinion to the Cat Clinic. The new doctor found that our cat had a severe case of ring worm. He is now on a treatment plan and getting so much better!!! It just kills me to know that we spent over $500 in less than one month with Dyer AC and were considering either putting our cat to sleep or spending a larger amount of money at a specialist over this misdiagnosis. The Cat Clinic called three days later and sent a follow up card in the mail. What a nice gesture when the regular vet never even called to follow up or get the status of the cat or our plans. Overall, I feel that the doctor at the Dyer AC does not have the best bedside manner with the animals and definitely not good customer service for the owners. read more

Two complaints , 1. A while back my dog who had bad allergies expierened an allergic reaction and both of her eyes were swollen red . I called Dyer animal hospital to get her in ASAP and was told they are booked take her to an emergency clinic. I told them I couldn't afford taking her there and simply just got a sorry. Instead of making someone wait who is coming for a checkup my dog had to suffer 2. Went online to schedule a quick nail trim. The only option was a 1040 am appt for a wellness. The staff and Dr. Farrell are fantastic ! They always get me in quickly when one of my pets are sick. The reception staff is always so accommodating (especially Kate), friendly and are quick to respond. The techs always treat my pets with care and compassion, which is very hard to find. Vet appointments can be very stress full for both owner and pets so I am very happy that I found a place that I have full confidence in and know my pets are being well taken care of. If I could write zero stars I would. After my first visit, 1.5 weeks later, my cat had quit eating for 3 days and become removed and peed outside of his box 2x's. Then he pooped and I saw blood. I called and they could not get me in for 2.5 days. They said that was the best they could do. They had no other option. The receptionist said - if it was her cat she would take him to the emergency room. They don't care about animals! The initial visit, I took my cat of 7 years to this clinic after moving back to the area based on their reviews. My male cat was urinating outside of the box, which I believed to be behavioral issue based on a 4 month old bladder test, but said I would be willing to test him again, and explained everything I had done. He had become picky with food as well. Not only did I wait in the room, for approximately 45 minutes while the Doctor and techs came in/out several times, always having to remember what they were doing they finally gave him a rabies shot and said not to do the bladder test and try two littler boxes completely new, blah blah blah. they are not interested in caring for sick animals. We were so appreciative of our visit to the Dyer animal clinic on July 13,2018. It was late on a Friday afternoon and our animal was in distress. The office staff was able to accommodate our situation. Dr. Hubbard was so nice to our family and answered all of our questions and was able to reassure us that our dog would be okay. My husband and I have talked at length how appreciative we were with our experience. You have no idea how happy you made us! and our dog is responding to the treatment prescribed. After having visited a number of our local veterinarians over the past years, where most of those visits resulted in an uneasy feeling at best, I am glad to report that the Dyer Animal Clinic was just the opposite, with superb service, a friendly staff, and a caring, professional, and knowledgeable vet, Dr. Molly Farrell. We are the proud owner of an 18 month old Black Lab, whose first visit to a different local vet had me feeling like "That was a money grab", rather than a vet that truly wanted to help your pet. Not wanting to repeat that occurrence, we searched Yelp for an honest and caring vet, and found her in Dr. Farrell at her establishment of the Dyer Animal Clinic. Dr. Farrell took a great amount of time to examine our puppy, gave great advice, was exceptional with our Lab and came up with a reasonable (non-alarmist) treatment plan to assure that our Lab will continue to live a happy, healthy life. If you have a cat or dog and want to visit a clean, established, caring vet, you can rest assured at your visit to the Dyer Animal Clinic. Our puppy is happy. We are happy. You will be too. Dyer animal clinic is wonderful! We recently moved to the area with our two dogs from the Southwest. Dr. Farrell and her staff took the time to get to know us and our dogs and made sure they felt comfortable before beginning their exams. They took the time to talk to my husband and I about differences in pet care and health between where we used to live and here. They did a complete exam on our dogs and made sure we understood everything they discussed with us. My family has been using this clinic longer than I can remember so I never really dealt with the old vet but the new vets are wonderful. I brought in my kitten to have some tests done and it turned out she was in extremely bad shape and on her death bed so unfortunately we had to put her down the vet was extremely compassionate and sympathetic towards our situation. she has cats of her own so you could see empathy she had towards us. over all a really good vet and very thorough during exams and really good and gentle with pets. I live on the north side of Chicago where vet prices are through the roof and they charge about half the price here as do other vets in Chicago. read more

Dr. DeGraaf had been our dog's vet since he was 8 weeks old. She always gave us sound advice and suggestions. The staff is equally as compassionate. Dr. Molly Farrell is an excellent doctor and very knowledgeable. In years past I have been to a walk-in vet and my dogs were too anxious there. I knew we had the right place when my usually anxious dog, layed on the floor in the waiting room. All of the staff is very friendly and caring. Last year we lost your dog who we had taken to Dyer Animal Clinic his entire life. When we took him there to be cremated the office staff was not very consoling, not even a sorry about your loss. I debated on going back with our other dog, but decided to return. We went today our appointment was 30 minutes late with no explanation, the vet came in listened to his heart and lungs all of about 5 minutes which was a $54 exam, did not check his ears or his coat like they always did in the past. When I called for the appointment the girl on the the phone kept saying "that ain't goin work" as she looked for an appointment time. I asked for my records today and told the receptionist we won't be back, did even ask why. We have been going to Dyer Animal For 18 years, but won't be going back. $170 for 3 shots and a 5 minute exam. I had also received a text to bring a stool sample, why do you need that? read more

Yesterday, 2-3-15, was my first visit with the new owner, Dr. Molly Ferrell. She was excellent! My little dog, 8 years old, always had extreme anxiety issues upon vet visits in the past. Over the course of the visit, my dog became calmer, and let the Dr. examine her and do the necessary treatments. She could "sense" the gentle demeanor of this excellent and most patient vet and her warm courteous assistant, Kim. Dr. Molly was very informative, confident and gave me the feeling that she truly cared. If you need a great vet, I would recommend the doctor! read more
