When our…read moremassive and productive avocado tree died we searched for a professional to help us transform our backyard and our outdoor patio. We chose Nancy Knapp because we appreciate how well she listens and incorporates our wishes with her professional judgement in planning. She describes our plan as a drought tolerant "woodland garden." It is filled with grasses and flowering plants, as well as a California Sycamore tree, a couple of moderately sized pines, and a small Japanese Maple. It attracts lots of birds and insects, including butterflies, hummingbirds , and honey bees. The rain gutters feed into a dry river bed that she designed. We love Nancy's creative thinking. She is thoughtful and honest in suggesting suitable plants as well as incorporating some of our existing plants, to create this small sanctuary that is enjoyed by all. Communication is essential for us and Nancy always responded in a timely way to our phone calls, emails, or texts. She is very friendly, thoughtful, and understanding. She met the timelines that we set out for each stage of the construction. Nancy works well with her crew. They are respectful and careful working around non-garden areas. She leads a team of kind and pleasant workers. We highly recommend Nancy Knapp and Weeds for beautifully planned landscaping.

Our home was in desperate need of landscaping after a major renovation. The grass had not been…read morewatered for over a year and the only signs of life were some jurassic looking weeds. Both our front and backyard were atrocious. After having dinner in West Adams, we noticed a landscaping office next door. We wanted to work with a local business that also worked with local nurseries and decided to get a quote with Green Grounds. They put me in touch with Guillermo, who I think is the boss. He came by and gave us a reasonable quote for the front yard and fencing around the back. I'd say it's definitely not the cheapest quote but i found it reasonable for the amount of work we were going to do. We weren't ready yet for the backyard but wanted to at least get the front done. We ended up getting a quote for: - dry scape front yard - fencing removal and replacement - plants - gravel - lighting - watering drip system - iron reinforced pavers for driveway It was a lot of work and on the hottest day of the year, their crew showed up with about 8 people to get work done quickly. We were shocked at just how quick things were! In addition, Guillermo did a great job communicating with us, suggesting certain plants and designs, etc. We met him at a local nursery to walk through and pick out plants. He is a walking plant encyclopedia. Show him a plant, he knows exactly what it is! He brought us samples of gravel and were able to choose right away what we wanted for our yard. In a short 5 days, our front yard was brand new and our jenky fence was a secure wooden fence with swinging gate to the backyard access. Not only was the quality of work excellent, but the short amount of time it took them was extremely impressive. We really wanted them to return to do our backyard. Again, we got a quote - this time it was going to be more extensive - leveling the backyard - french drain to divert water away from structures - demo and removal of existing weeds and uglies - plants, trees, privacy hedges, gravel - artificial turf - pavers (with artificial turf in between pavers) - Watering drip system - lighting - decking update to accommodate for land removal - fencing update to accommodate for land removal - laying down brick in a small area This was definitely a lot of work. I initially wanted to see if we could get LA County to give us some rebate money but we did not qualify. this delayed us signing up and submitting our deposit for about a month. However, after finally committing to the project and submitting our $1K deposit, unfortunately by that time Green Grounds had a bunch of other projects. They weren't able to get to ours until 2 months later. it was a long wait but ultimately, it was absolutely worth it! Again, the crew came out - this time on the coldest day! 8-10 people for demo, excavation, pavers, plants, etc. It was a massive project and they completed it in 6 days! I am so happy with the result. I am also extremely impressed with Green Grounds - their work quality, ethic, and professionalism. At the end of it, they even cleaned up my front yard and made it look brand new again! Highly recommend this company for anyone looking for a some professional landscaping.

Fast forward to several design meetings, discussions, back and forth, demo, install, and maintenance setup and we are now those neighbors with nice things to say to the next person. Barbara and Richard work as a great team. They listen to what you want but also gently push back when they feel they need to based on their expertise. It was a great collaborative experience. We sort of knew what we wanted and didn't want, Barbara was great about giving us options, talking through ideas. Richard came in a little later and solved a wonky legacy sprinkler setup en route to great two tier irrigation system. And the lighting design and execution is fantastic. The actual install took about a week after a day of demo a few weeks earlier. Barbara and Richard were at the site every day and for much of the day. Their team doing the work were very nice and hard workers. Maintenance is key so make sure you agree to a good maintenance plan if you're like me and don't quite have a green thumb.

I was so glad that I reached out anyway just to ask, because it turned out her bid was very much in line with the other quotes I was getting, while clearly being a step above in quality. Helen and her team helped with a relatively large project - rehabbing a slope behind our property that had become barren, building a set of staircases, and replanting our front yard space. From start to finish, Helen was a joy to work with, continually going above and beyond to make sure the project went as well as it possibly could, all while being conscious of our budget. She was collaborative, informative, kind, and generally just a pleasure to work with, and every member of her team was the same. I've already recommended her to family members and neighbors, and am excited to keep working with her for years to come.
