Whilst on my quarterly run I came across Allan Park…read more Maybe it was the lateness of the day, they grey skies or cold weather, but this park it pretty blah. There's a trail I started to walk down but stopped because it didn't look all that interesting. I've been told the area recently flooded the there is a staircase currently blocked off, so maybe it's blah for this reason. I'm not sure what it is, but this park doesn't seem all that popular with the locals.

This would be a gorgeous spot to spend a little time enjoying a bit of rare sunshine with a picnic and a special loved one or to just sit on a bench with a book and a cup of tea. Lots of benches so it's easy to find your own little semiprivate nook to watch the world go by and the ducks float past.

Not only have you got some of the best sand dune networks to be found in Britain but you've also got the Sea Front Splash. This is a great place to occupy the kids, there are three seperate parts to the park making it suitable for all ages of kids and the parts for the younger ones are tastefully fenced off. The main park has several water play areas, which contain not only the usual splash pools but have a dam section and Archimedes screws. For the older kids (me included) there's a mini assault course, mini golf and trampolines. I should mention that the park is local authority run and mantained. Now i know most people at this point are thinking grafitti, broken seats and rubbish, but no. This place is well looked after and mantained. From the landscaping to the freshly painted pavillion. The entire park is person friendly, the ground is white sand to a depth of about 2 feet so sand castles are a must! There's plenty of parking and also disabled access. The toilets are 20 pence to use (free for the kids) and very clean. There is a small cafe and ice cream stand for the hungry but i recommend the packed lunch option. This is a great place to relax whether with or without kids. On a sunny day the park is busy but there's always a place to sit and relax without being bothered. I've read several books while the kids play away safely and as it's open planned i can keep an eye out for them easily. Ooh, almost forgot: Dogs are welcome but on a lead and poo bins are a plenty, so PLEASE use them.

This place is fantastic for a sunny day out (if you're fortunate enough to catch one)…read more It's an unusual place to visit in that you have the combined attractions of forest walks with one of the longest beaches in Scotland (around 5 miles). There's also a large picnic table area which permits BBQ's, so you really could spend the whole day here. Access to the site is currently a very reasonable £2 per vehicle and there is plenty of parking as well as toilet facilities. If you've not been before, I'd definitely recommend it for a relaxing day trip!
