I like to take photos and am always snapping pictures left and right while I'm out and about. But when I received Matt's photos after both of these events, I had to ask myself why I had bothered; his artistic eye and his amazing ability to take fantastic photos that beautifully capture the mood and the energy of the event and the people involved is just amazing. I am especially impressed by his ability to shoot great pictures in low light, which I find incredibly tricky. In addition, Matt is a consummate professional, very responsive and easy to work with, and prompt with producing the final product. As if that weren't enough, he is very generous with his time and has a spirit of volunteerism that I really admire. I'd definitely recommend him for all of your photography needs; both the person and his product are top notch.

I read lots of reviews for Austin area photographers and just loved Matt's sample photos. Lucky for us, Matt was available to photograph our wedding. He showed up on time and captured beautiful moments during our wedding, but his true talent shined when we stepped outside to take photos. Matt coached us (and our kids) on how to pose and made magical memories that we truly cherish. For the price and the time we had Matt on site, he did a phenomenal job. While we were reluctant to spend money on a professional photographer, we also didn't want to risk missing precious photos with family and friends. Hire Matt Montalvo Photography and you will get exactly the photos you wanted without even asking. Matt is a pro and it shows. I loved the fact that the photos were artsy/colorful and not just the typical portraits. But what really sealed the deal was when we talked to Josh over Skype. He stated he doesn't charge by the hour for weddings because then he would be too focused on time, and also because it's a (hopefully) once in a lifetime experience that shouldn't be limited by time. He definitely followed through - we had an almost 10hr engagement session followed by another the next day!! How many photographers can you say would be ok with that? He really uses his surroundings to strengthen the photo as well. Andrew is his partner that did our 2nd day of engagement session and he was just as passionate, and just as friendly. During the wedding they really made sure to capture some of the best moments. I couldn't have asked for a better team!

He's not cheap, but charges professionally for professional work. I work by the hour or gig, too; I understand charging what one is worth. Two things to note: His studio work is in a shared space (which works fine) rather than a permanent studio (lots of it is on location, of course), and he doesn't accept checks (and upcharges for credit cards). Can't say I blame him. That's easily handled by electronic payment such as Venmo or direct bank transfer, no muss, no fuss. I'll update this when the album cover's finished.

I searched through almost 90 websites of Austin photographers and eliminated all but three. Most were the same dull, stock poses and backgrounds that don't tell you anything about the person in the picture. Of the three whose portfolios I liked, one was VERY expensive, one didn't reply to my query for more than two weeks...and one was John Langford. John was very prompt in responding, answered all my questions, and -- most importantly -- GOT what I was looking for. We set up an appointment and it was fun and easy, not like my previous photo shoots. John has a great eye, makes good suggestions on poses and expressions, and I was super-thrilled with the results of our session. Everyone who's seen the pix has been impressed, because John truly captured my personality and sense of humor. These are the best promo shots I've ever had! He was always so quick to respond. When the wedding finally arrived, he put us and our families at ease. The groom and both fathers are pretty vocal in their dislike of photos, but Jeff managed to win even them over - he was professional but fun, and the suggestions that got us all laughing led to some of the best photos during the family portraits. We did a two-hour session earlier in the week before the wedding with just the bride and groom, to save time during the packed wedding day, and this ended up being a great call. Not only did we get some incredibly striking photos in a different setting than what was available during the wedding itself (like in front of a jaw-dropping sunset), we also had the opportunity to get comfortable with Jeff and his shooting style. Highly recommend. The photos turned out amazing, which is a huge understatement. He put together the gallery after the wedding faster than I was expecting, and sent us access to an online gallery. He had already picked out some highlights, but sent us everything so we could go through ourselves. He also did a few touch-ups for us that meant a lot - like removing an accidental photobomb from another vendor when my dad and I were walking down the aisle. Overall - an amazing experience! I've never had professional photos done before, and the candid moments he was able to catch of us I will cherish forever.
