Quick look rating: 4/5 Experience…read more What a great find of a little airport, and I mean a little airpot! Just to the north of Dallas, Texas just under a hundred miles, right near highway 35 lies this cute little airport. It is very close to the southern border of Oklahoma right near the Texas, Oklahoma border. After a tough week, I took a little adventure to the north of Dallas on highway 35 for a discovery/adventure trip. I had stopped and talked to some locals and found out a rumor of a fantastic catfish restaurant, that some folks would fly into the small airport and wonder over for their catfish! Now that seems like it must be some damn good catfish to me! It must be in how fresh the fish must be and the breading! Ok, so I was on adventure to learn more. I found this little airport where they would fly into and boy is it small! The restaurant for this fantastic catfish is known as McGehee Catfish Resturant and has high marks with Yelp so far! A four out of five with currently 25 reviews, but who else knows about this hidden gem that even pilots are willing to fly into this little airport for fresh catfish. This catfish restaurant must be good to have so many pilots and their customers fling in for catfish! What I loved is from observation that this is a cute little airport! Nice airport, it's not too big. Much easier to go in and out of than DFW (especially with the…read morecurrent construction in terminal c, March 2026). I've flown Southwest flights from DAL and never had issues. Nice airport with several good food and shopping options and getting thru security takes 10-20 mins, depending on how busy it is. Parking garage is right outside of the main terminal, and if you're picking someone up, they have wait lots where you can sit until they say they're at the curb.

In this case, it was pretty easy getting off the plane and to my car rental booth. However, it is really annoying to have someone at the Rental Car Information Booth who lets everyone pass her just to find "Go to the Shuttle" signs at the counter. Spend the money on a sign that doesn't roll its eyes. Of course, this was the last airport JFK flew into. In fact, LBJ was sworn in as president while on the tarmac here. For being one of the oldest continually operating airports in the US (founded in 1917 as a WW1 training base), it doesn't look like it. By the way, if you're on a layover, they have a Smithsonian-affiliated museum ($12) that houses over 30 aircraft and extensive space flight exhibits on airport grounds a 5 minute taxi ride away. As for being the site of movies: their modern (for its time) moving sidewalks were used in Logan's Run (1976). Oliver Stone recreated the president's arrival here for JFK (1991), as did the Stephen King based 11.22.63 (2016); Wes Anderson used it for the backdrop of Bottle Rocket (1996), and the airport was a plot point in Michelle Pfeiffer's Love Field (1992).
