If you're visiting Siena, take the time to visit what I like to call, the 'Zebra church.' It's very unique in that the church is striped both inside and outside - very unexpected but very cool! On the day that I visited, locals were honoring their patron saint (I can't recall who that is, now), and we were privileged enough to see some of the town's children wearing traditional Medieval clothing, parading through Siena's main square along with locals following. They made a stop in the church itself to pay homage to their patron saint.
Architecturally, this Gothic church is quite beautiful and worth the visit. As one reviewer mentioned, the marble floors are amazing - I probably spent as much time walking around looking at the floors as I did looking at the church itself! Don't forget to visit the library! read more
