One of my friends got a sundae and it looked absolutely delicious, with a nice amount of toppings. I tried the cookie bar flavor, which actually tasted like salted caramel. The ice cream base was delicious, but I wish they threw in some cookie chunks or other textural element. The location itself is great. It's designed to be a summer spot, so there's no indoor seating. There are picnic benches behind the ice cream shop with great views of a marsh. There's a parking lot that's shared with a pizza place, so you can grab some pizza with your ice cream. After seeing the other 1 star reviews, I feel my review is warranted. I brought my family to Dunlaps for some ice cream... Right from the start the experience was off. The counter help was beyond rude and kept rushing my indecisive child. He's 6.... Of course he doesn't know exactly what he wants. He changed his mind several times- all of which was before they even turned around to get his ice cream. But that's not the issue here.... There was a roach in my husband's ice cream cone. A freaking ROACH. we had made it down to the beach area before realizing it, and all of us immediately tossed our ice cream. Board of health has been notified. Dunlap's offer 25 flavors of hard ice cream, 4 varieties of soft serve (choc, vanilla, twist, coffee), 4 flavors of frozen yogurt, sundaes, banana splits, waffle cones, frappes, floats, typhoons, Richie's Italian Ice, ice cream cakes, plus hot dogs, chips, & coffee (iced & hot). Whenever I stop here for ice cream on the way to the beach, I usually get the coffee soft serve or the blackberry low carb which are my favorites. As soon as I get my cone, I have to eat it fast because it begins to melt and drip and makes a sticky mess of my hands. Brain freeze action, aaaahhhh, but sooo good on a very hot day!!! the only reason I dont give Dunlap's five stars is because they dont allow credit cards. C'mon people get with the times and accept credit cards. YOu're probably missing a lot of tourists who'd stop but dont have cash on them. I know there's ATMS but sometimes you dont want to pay with cash ..--my credit card doesnt have an ATM debit card on it. :-( That said I had cash with me this time and got a Reese's sundae. Everyone ordered and then I did... same thing I ALWAYS get when we have ice cream; a scoop of black raspberry and a scoop of pistachio in a plain cone. The young lady who took the order said "we can't mix flavors" WHAT? That didn't make much sense. "If you want 2 flavors, I have to charge you for 2 different ice creams. ." She said " in order to keep track of inventory, we can't do seperate flavors or we have to charge you separately for the 2." I said " you'd rather lose a sale than give a scoop of 2 different flavors?" The woman said "If that's how you feel." I walked away and we will NEVER go back. There are SO MANY GOOD places to get ice cream at the beach that no one needs that bologna.
