The 75 acre Dunedin Botanic Garden is New Zealand's first botanic garden, created in 1863. The Garden is home to 6,800 plant species and several native songbirds, like -bellbirds, wood pigeons and tui. Some of the collection gardens include roses, herbaceous plants, perennial borders, a rock garden, New Zealand native plants and a dell with more than 3,000 rhododendrons. The New Zealand Native plant collection is the cultivation of rare and endangered native plant species. There's also a collection from temperate climates of North Asia, the South, Central and North Americas, Southern Africa, the Himalayas and the Mediterranean. There are posted maps at the entrances. The main path is paved and wide, with smaller winding wandering through the gardens leading to the various collections. Entry is free. Open from dawn to dust. A small cafe is on the property. Not sure about parking since I walked in.
