I arrived here in January as a wedding guest and stayed for two nights. The hotel reception area and function rooms are beautiful, a great place to hold a wedding, birthday or conference. I did feel that the quality of the bedrooms did not match the price charged and this is why I can only give 3 out of 5. The bed was comfy enough, however the pillows were too soft, the hair drier barely dried your hair and the bathroom had been neglected. The floor had several marks and the bath was dirty around the edges. I would also say that the breakfast was not very good so all in all, a disappointing experience for the money. I did enjoy the wedding and the bride and groom had a fantastic day but I feel the rooms need to be improved.

We have a 6 week old baby and it's so nice when staff are understanding of the difficulties faced at times with a newborn. The staff seated us next the fire so that we were warm and away from drafts. The food is wholesome but doesn't really rock the tastebuds. My starter of breaded Brie was done well and Hubby's lentil soup was piping hot (a must for soup!). Both were palatable and enjoyable. I opted for lasagne which was served with salad and chips. It almost reminded me of a school lunch in that it was comforting. Hubby's burger was well seasoned and quite tasty! Dessert was homemade profiteroles in chocolate sauce. It was tasty but didn't rock the tastebuds. It's a little out the way from Glasgow as it's just outside of Kilwinning. However there's a good sized car park and the staff are simply lovely. Great value for money in that we both had 3 courses and a few non alcoholic drinks for the grand total of £25. By the time we had arrived at Cairnryan Port Scotland it was very dark, but we decided to start driving the 200 mile trek from Cairnryan Port on the A77 roadway to Lochness Lake located approx (200) miles away. Being so very tired, and struggling to drive any further, we began looking for places to rest on the long dark roads around Ballantrae, this is when we stumbled upon the King Arms Hotel. The King Arms staff booked us in late without any trouble, were very polite and offered us a late night dinner and drinks. We ended up playing pool in the pub area, having drinks, and speaking to the locals in the pub about the history of the area. In the morning, in the dining room area, they had a very nice breakfast prepared for us to sustain us on our journey, the atmosphere was amazingly family like. It was a very unexpected and pleasant stop on our journey into Scotland! If you walk to the west of the main parking lot, there is a small trail which will lead you through a large grassy soccer field, this trail will take you to the shore of Ballantrae Bay, the trail is approximately 700 feet in length. The view in the morning hours was amazing!!!!! Definitely Recommend!

The reception is clean and tidy, the lady on reception over my stay was very friendly and helpful, she actually showed an interest in my reasons for my stay. There is a vending machine within the hotel if you get peckish or thirsty. Each room is well equiped with tea and coffee making facilities and TV's. There is ample parking outside and the hotel is next to the Solway Gate which is fantastic. This is an excellent priced hotel where kids stay free. The only downside is the hotel does not offer air-conditioning.

New Lanark is a village designed by Robert Owen, an industrial revolutionary who wanted to give his workers a safe place to live and work and to halt the exploitation of children. He ran mills which have now been converted into an interactive museum, a visitor centre and a hotel. We booked the hotel for our wedding reception (we had the meal in the function room in the hotel then moved over to the Institute in the Vistor Centre for the ceilidh as there was more room). Had a few worries because there is a noise limiter in the hotel function room and there was the possibilty that one may be installed in the Institute room and our band wouldnt play if there was one , but that didnt come to anything. They also cocked up some of the room bookings for our guests who were staying, but all of the staff were extremely apologetic and gave us room upgrades and smoothed everything out. On they day though, they were excellent. I can totally recommend Lee, who made the day run like clockwork and also Helen at the Institute for being so accommodating and for putting on a fab spread for our evening guests! The food was very good, much better than I expected from a hotel wedding with 120 odd guests having a sit down meal (it should have been good given the price, but I often think that wedding food in that kind of venue can be mediocre at best!) The wedding packages as always were quite expenisve so we just paid per head for the meal. We transported some of our flowers from the church windows to use as centrepieces for the tables, we had our own piper, we didnt bother with different coloured linen, we brought our own wine and paid corkage (bought from the Wine Society), so we managed to save a bit on the package which had stuff in it we didnt need or want. I must say though that they were really flexible with substituing and negociating the packages, so if you had your own piper you could swap to include canapes or something of similar "value". We just had too many things ourselved to warrent the package and to warrent the substitutions. Wonderful day - ran like clockwork (though I did end up being a little late!) but thoroughly recommend NLM

My family stayed here for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. The hotel took care of our every need. We arrived late at night to check in and the chef offered to still stay up to cook us dinner, and it was amazing! Beat whiskey and Best Veggie Haggis I had on the entire trip! The rooms were beautiful and the location was perfect. Thank you for the free umbrellas, the free wifi, and letting us barrow some outlet converters. We love and appreciate all you have done for our family during our stay. We hope to be back again! Xx
