The main hook of my ten day trip to Europe was to hit up some Christmas markets. I've heard great…read morethings about them from friends - hot mulled wine, street food, seasonal gifts, a warm atmosphere - and so it was awesome to be able to visit my very first European Christmas market in Düsseldorf!
This is a smaller market (the one I went to later in Strasbourg is huge) with a half dozen or so kiosks surrounding a large Christmas tree. As is the custom in modern times, there are concrete bollards around to prevent vehicles from doing something stupid. There is also a clear eingang and ausgang with security. And new for 2021, the security officers are checking COVID status. I was able to get in with my passport and CDC card, others were displaying the COVID QR code on their phones.
Inside, yes, glühwein, Christmas ornaments and people having fun. What a blast!
