Went to see WICKED at the Alma movie theater. Sound was awful. More than one of the customers…read morecomplained and we were told it was the fault of the movie's production, not a problem with the theater. We were told NCG sent an email to their theaters that they were aware of the sound issues. After spending $100 for 4 us to see the movie, popcorn, and drinks, it was VERY disappointing that there was NOTHING telling us about the sound. I talked with one customer who was seeing the movie for the second time and did not have any sounds issues at the first movie theater, Celebration Theaters. We also were not offered anything like our money back or an apology. Do NOT SEE this movie at a NCG theater!

We attended a 4:20 showing (just missed matinee pricing) of Migration on Friday, January 5 with 2…read moreseniors, one adult and 2 children, ages 6 & 8, in addition to purchasing 2 large tubs of popcorn. We were charged $10 per person for admission, despite the fact that the seniors & children should have been $8.00 each, so in essence we were ripped off for the price of one $8.00 ticket. My wife didn't notice the discrepancy until we got home to Clare, and called to see what could be done about the overcharge. The person answering the phone said she talked to the manager, and that there was nothing that they would do about it. Basically, she said too bad, so sad. Shameful lack of customer service!! In retrospect, we'd have been better off to go to the Midland NCG (same distance for us) where the customer service is WAY better. Lesson learned.

Do you know what a Scot is???? I do now…read more A Scot is the schools mascot. A burly scottish man on steroids wearing a kilt. Kinda cute. My daughter is one now. She was accepted into their dance program and recieved a scholarship for dance and merit. I went here with my daughter on Scot Day. That's when kids and parents attend an all day meet the school and faculty and see where your child is going to go(and your money). This turned out to be a great day. I was impressed with the facility. They have a great combination of new and old facilities. We met the new President of the College and many of faculty. The sun was shining, the food was good(they fed us), and the everything went well. My daughter made an observation, "everybody here seems so friendly". Here are a few other things to note about the college.... Alma College boasts a 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio, a liberal arts approach to undergraduate education, over 40 majors, minors and pre-professional programs, the chance to self-design programs of emphasis and an intensive Spring Term that provides opportunities for innovative courses, travel classes, research and internships. Since 2003, 20 Alma College students have won prestigious national fellowships, scholarships and awards, including 10 Fulbright fellowships and multiple Udall, Truman and Gates-Cambridge scholarships. Alma's Nationally Competitive Scholarship Committee identifies and nurtures exceptional candidates for nationally competitive scholarships, grants and awards. Alma College students are annual high achievers in the national Model United Nations competition. Alma has received Outstanding Delegation awards in each of the last 12 years at the world's largest and most prestigious collegiate Model UN Conference in New York City. In regional competition, Alma has earned 31 Outstanding Delegation awards over the last 15 years. This should be a great fours years....Look for me next time wearing my Alma hat.....

Some have referred to Alma as Harvard on the Pine, because of the scholastic rigor and location on…read morethe Pine river. I am an Alumni, and have very fond memories of Alma. Several of my family members have subsequently attended Alma. Alma has certainly prepared me for my further academic pursuits. However, I must still rate it 3 stars, and here is why... The education is strong, but primarily because the students are driven and well picked by admissions. I believe that the students of Alma College would have succeeded and shone brightly anywhere they studied. Unfortunately, the price of Alma is hindering to many of the Graduates given the current economic climate. They put more effort into asking for Alumni donations after you graduate then helping you connect and move up. Some of the professors are remarkable! Some just aren't. There are professors with agendas, as there are everywhere. However, I feel it is obvious at Alma. I would not recommend Alma for the professors in general. When I was a student the interim president made it very clear that student safety was not an agenda! Student congress squanders money, and is cliquey if not down right rigged. The food is great! However, if you look at the price per meal you might wonder if it is worth the price. The campus is beautiful, and the arts are decent. I will stop there. I loved Alma, and I miss it dearly. However, if you are looking to stand out from the crowd then do the work, bleed, sweat, and apply to one of the top 20 colleges in America. If you don't get in then I recommend you take a year to work and travel after high school. When you return find a solid Community or City college with a transfer option to a good state school. Then plan to get your Masters right after. If you are really committed to your field then earn your Ph.D. and go teach at Alma!
