There is some interesting flora and fauna: In the summer I always manage to spot adorable bunnies at the Park. There are also usually some pretty interesting birds in the Park, the Japanese Garden, and surrounding areas. The Park is best known for its cherry blossoms, but there is other equally lovely foliage during other parts of the year. The eastern part of the Park abuts the lake, and it is easy to access the 63rd street beach through an underpass leading from the park to the beach. The beach is full of atmosphere, and often has fun food/drink pop-ups. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Park. It is however important to be mindful of sound/activity levels so that it remains equally enjoyable for other visitors.

Kept up pretty well and clean. There's also a playground. Fairly good open area. It may be kind of small but it's bigger than it actually looks. This is small compared to the larger parks for sure but it's still plenty enough space. People like to come here and walk dogs. There's also pretty good playground equipment so this is family friendly too. It may feel a little sketchy at times but generally there's not much trouble around here. The area is usually too busy to get away with bad stuff. Has a few athletic fields. It's most often used for soccer. There's also tennis.

Nichols Park is named in honor of John Fountain Nichols, an artist and lifelong resident of Hyde Park. He was a student at the SAIC and took part in creating artwork for the federal government during the Depression. He also was a teacher on the south side and championed the revitalization of Hyde Park. This park has a gym, tennis courts, two fountains, field house, and lots of green lawn. There's also a community garden here, flowers and veggies for all. Playgrounds, a baseball field, and more round out the offerings here. If you need parking, there's plenty of it around here.

Coliseum Park is good city park with fun structures, plus a separate dog run…read more We were gathering with several families for an early dinner(Feb. 2026), and this park was a fun place to meet ahead of time. Coliseum Park is a 0.75-acre fenced greenspace at S. Wabash and E. 14th Place, open daily 6am-9pm. There's a cool-looking coliseum-shaped open-roofed structure at the northeast corner entrance, about 15-feet-tall, a circular center with two promenading arms (if promenading is what i mean to say). By the way, some city parks set up a two-gate entrance that gives kids an extra safety barrier from the street; this park only has a single-gated surrounding fence. Our group loved the six-sided climbing-structure, maybe 10-feet tall, that encloses a sort of rubbery swinging ramp and a web of ropes. Kids can climb to the top of a medium-length metal slide. There's also a smaller plastic slide on a hill for the younger kids We ran up and down five small built-hills, i dont know that else to call them, sort of padded bumps that are more fun than they sound like in a flat city :-). Some of them have stubby posts or rocks for sitting or climbing. One has a swiveling wavy-chair to plThere's several good-size low rocks around the park, too. I think i've finished making up awkward names for these things ;-). There's a medium-small self-powered merry-go-round which we spent a lot of time spinning on. And there's a saucer swing for one or two kids at a time, which was popular, too. The play area around all this equipment is that rough padding that helps soften any falls, but gives a good rash if a hand, elbow, or knee slides along it. Yes, a few tears were shed, but I suppose it reduces slipping. I didnt explore the dog-friendly fenced-area along the west side of this park, next to the elevated L-tracks. It's the length of the park, maybe 10-feet wide, mostly paved, with several trees. The entrance is from E. 14th Place. Signs remind you that dogs aren't allowed in the rest of the park with the kids. One of the adults tried the climbing structure, but it was kind of small for them. The merry-go-round and several of the hills are big enough for an adult or two to get involved :-) For those of us who were enjoying watching the playing more than engaging in the playing, there's backless benches scattered about the park, and there are benches along the edges of the park that have backs. (Though i admit i took a wild turn on the merry-go-round :-). Also, from an adult perspective, the corners on some of the play structures in more than one city park look like pimento-stuffed cocktail olives. Or is that just me?

Add to it all the lush greenery complete with a nearby lagoon and it's the ideal place for fun and relaxation. A friend of mine introduced me to this nice little oasis. It's the perfect stomping grounds for leisure and exercise. There are plenty of trails to partake in a walk, run, bike or rollerblade. This park is huge and there is plenty of space for outdoor picnic and sport. While walking with my friend, we came across folks taking part in tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball, football and fishing. There is something for everyone here and you can make an entire day out of it. They also have a large public outdoor pool with splash pad for the kids. Another plus is the plentiful street parking within the park's perimeter with a dedicated parking lot near the pool grounds. In the wintertime, I think they have an outdoor ice rink too. Check out McKinley park. It's a gem of a park in the city's southwest side.

What a nice County park in the city of Chicago. This is a large park, and has portions on both…read moresides of 87th Street. South of 87th Street you enter the parking lot at about 88th Street on Western Avenue ... north of 87th Street you enter the parking lot right on 87th Street just east of Western. The north portion runs all the way down to the train tracks at about 83rd Street, about four blocks. The south portion runs up to 90th Street and partially - on the east side - over to about 91st Street. Either way you are in for a treat. This expansive park has loads of room to spread out, whether a summer picnic group or a small family gathering with a cookout. In fact, during the pandemic, just visiting and sitting in the parking lot with your friends in lawn chairs is a way to keep active socially. There are a couple of shelters on each side of the park, but these undoubtedly require reservations. There is enough room for a pickup family flag-football game. The south section is mostly flat, while the north end is hilly, and they used to have toboggan slides there. The parking lots also hold scores of cars. Give this place a try and you'll enjoy.
