I had an extremely bad experience with Bennett Career Institute. I arrived at my scheduled…read moreappointment on time. However, there was a 30+ minute wait after the scheduled appointment time for someone to get started on my hair. I wasn't upset but the unexpected delay would make me late to an appointment afterwards. I was in communication with the front desk to cancel the appointment, she had me submit the cancellation ticket to the lead instructor Ms. Angel Brown who became extremely unprofessional and hostile, acting like she was about to fight me and yelling disrespectfully even though I remained calm. The Front Desk staff was Tara Gregg and Reon White was there to witness everything as it happened. I let Ms. Gregg know that I would be filing a complaint. Afterwards I emailed Roberta Bennett whose email address was listed on their website (who turns out to be the owner's sister). She reported the incident to the owner, Chet Bennett and to Ms. Brown. After a chain of email exchanges, I eventually spoke to Chet Bennett in person and told him exactly what happened as it happened. He apologized and said he would speak with her. I decided not to continue going there for appointments anymore, but almost half a year later I called to schedule an appointment (not for me) but for my daughter. The receptionist, Ms. Gregg, was very rude and just hung up on me. I went in person and spoke with another staff person who eventually told me that they would not offer any hair services to my child. The staff person apologized and didn't understand why the owner was handling it this way. Instead of hanging up when I called I don't understand why it was not clearly stated over the phone, or even better, half a year ago when I first reported the incident. It seems so childish and petty to hang up the phone on a customer instead of directly stating they are refusing to service my daughter because I complained about a staff person (Ms. Brown) being confrontational. The lack of professionalism, customer service, and accountability was shocking. Customers deserve to be treated respectfully. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I rarely rate 1 star, but just know that when I do it is very well deserved.

I was thrilled to have found Karina after going through a full-glam wedding trial with another artist. The look was not me at all, and I went searching for someone who could achieve a more understated look. Karina fit the bill perfectly. Karina always came to me and charged a minimal cost for travel; she explained everything she was doing, as she was doing it; and she -- expertly -- did a complete pivot on my wedding makeup look between the trial and the big day. I truly can't wait to work with her again!

I am ACTUALLY the least photogenic person on the planet - I know everyone says that, but please trust me here - and while I only ended up liking three of the photos, that's still honestly a way better than average success rate for me. Julie the photographer was great to work with, and my makeup was of course on point. I showed the makeup artist a random photo of Olivia Wilde's makeup and she was able to replicate the look pretty well. I also love love love the owner here. You rule boss babe. I think a cool option they could consider adding is photo-editing for extra; I'd definitely pay more to have some airbrushing and magical Photoshop face slimming. So while most of these pictures sadly ended up just being another reminder of how badly I need to lose weight, I would highly recommend the package itself! Edit: before you ask, yes, the photos you get are way higher res than the ones I shared here. These three went through multiple rounds of amateur editing by me, screenshotting from insta, etc. That'll do the trick.

My mom went here the day before and only paid 18 bucks for the same exact treatments I had (wash, , deep condition, blow dry, trim, press and curl). Of course I didn't find out until after my salon visit that she paid no where near my amount (she had a senior citizen discount but it still doesn't excuse the overcharge). I should have known something was up when the educator asked me to pay some of the amount in cash and not all on my card. This is giving me signs of scamming. I paid for a deep condition yet not a cap or hooded dryer was used in the process. Makes me wonder if they just used regular conditioner instead of a deep conditioner. It didn't even sit on my hair for a minute before it was rinsed out. My hair was extremely tangled and dry after the wash and conditioner to the point my scalp was hurting as the stylist was combing it. I have 4c hair so moisture is essential on natural hair (but hey, I'm not the expert). I use Aussie moisturize deep conditioner at home and I know how my hair should feel afterwards and how nice the comb should be able to glide through. Called and spoke with the educator after my visit (didn't get her name but sounds like same one that took my money) and questioned the difference in prices and the deep condition treatment. She states (with an extremely long pause to the point I thought that she hung up), "due to my hair density and length I was charged this amount" and "their conditioning products are so good that you don't need to sit under dryer." Of course I don't believe this (but won't argue with her). I was charged based on density and length before anyone touched my head? Additionally, my moms hair is longer than mine. I arrived there with a wash and go ponytail so my hair shrinks to my head that you can't even determine the length or density by looking at it. So this is bogus. I usually stand clear of salons because of my anxiety due to horrible experiences (in particular people not knowing how to care for natural hair) and this has added to it. I will just continue to do my own hair as I usually do for all this headache.

I went to this school for my original esthetics license in 2015. I was not pleased with my…read moreexperience there at all. Olivia French promised a lot of things in the course - my class never received. Before payment- she promised there will be clients to work on and guest speakers for the class- all false. We worked solely on each other and had no guest speakers. That experience alone should have taught me to stay was from the school but I guess not. I went back in 2020 to get my managers license. I was told by Olivia that I needed to take her course in order to sit for the test. My mother and I collectively paid her $4,000 for the course that she said I needed. I went to her school twice for some one on one class time with Olivia- total of maybe 2 hours. Then Covid hit and we were unable to meet in person. I went online to renew my basic esthetics license and I noticed the site said I qualified to take my managers test since I had had my basic license for over 2 years. I was confused because that was my original question to Olivia- did I need a course in order to sit for my managers test? Originally Olivia said I most definitely needed to take the course with her school for my license. After seeing my eligibility online - I emailed Olivia and asked here why it would say I was eligible? She replied back and told me that was "was not eligible and I did indeed need to take the course". After researching and speaking with the dc board- I went on to take my managers test. A short time later- I passed the test. After passing the test and receiving my managers license I emailed Olivia and asked her the same questions again. And again Olivia said I would have to take her course for the license. Meanwhile- I had taken the test and had my license in hand. It was all lies. My mother and I composed an email to Olivia formally asking for our money back since I didn't need the course and I had only gone to her school for a few hours. Olivia did not initially respond to the email but had a friend call us both and POSE as a member of the cosmetology board and THREATEN us! Long story short- Olivia admitted once on the phone that she was wrong and would pay our money back. Then she switch it up- and said she would "see us in court". So we went on to file a complaint with the consumer affairs. We have official correspondence that Olivia admitted to taking money from us for a course that I did not need. THE KICKER- she was only willing to pay $25 a month to me and $75 a month to my mother until the $4,000 was paid back. That would take 5+ years! The funny thing is- I asked Olivia originally if I could pay for my course in two installments and she said no but then expected us to wait 5 years for our payment. We declined her offer because it was a joke . Please do your research before you spend your money with her school. She makes promises with no intention of keeping. She takes money with no intention of teaching. Olivia stole $4,000 from us. She has been in business forever many years- she knew I did not need that course especially since I originally went to her school 5 years prior - she knew how long I held my license.

It can feel like a real leap of faith to do something so personal and important in such an unconventional way, and to put your trust in a stranger and in your own ability to learn something you have never even considered before--but I am so glad I took it. I have an experience I will remember for the rest of my life, my fiancée (she said yes of course!) has a beautiful, truly one-of-a-kind heirloom she adores and values beyond measure, and we have a story we will tell over and over again. She is already getting questions about where I found her ring, and her friends are already gushing about how amazed they are I made it. Honestly, I am amazed too. I wasn't sure I could make a ring that looked better than a beginner's craft project!--but that was before I met Dan. I had a personal design idea that not only do they not sell in stores, they don't even really sell jade cut how I needed. As far as I can tell, no one had done this before. Well, now someone has, it turned out incredible, and it's all because Dan made it possible. He went above and so far beyond. As a craftsman he is not just skilled, but meticulous, and determined to make sure every product he works on meets his high standard of excellence. As a teacher he is patient, knowledgeable, and eager to share and show what he knows--which is a lot.  And to top it all off, he is a real man of his word--exactly the kind of person you want to put your trust in when dealing with precious metals, stones, and memories. In short, they don't 'em like Dan anymore--that goes for his character, and his jewelry. If you need jewelry made, if you need jewelry worked on, if you need a guiding hand to make something yourself--do yourself a favor and see Dan and his team at JewelryClassDC.

I came by Saturday and he was not there, so I left the piece with a young woman who admired the bracelet and tagged it to give it to him and took my phone number and email. When I had heard nothing by Wednesday, I called and Daniel somewhat impatiently said that "I haven't even looked at it," but that he would. I waited another three days and called a week from when I had originally dropped it off, only to have Daniel say that he "hadn't even looked at it" and I told him I would just come over to take it back. I came and he dumped the bracelet in my hand, again saying, "I haven't looked at it." When I reminded him that he had said Wednesday that he would look at it, he barked "What do you want from me!!!!!"
