I bought a pair of shoes from duckers back in the 70s, I am still wearing them. Yes there are a little tired now but they are old friends. I wish I had bought more of their shoes. But my foolish following of fashion probably led me away from them. Well I am back, I went to duckers just this week after sending an email on a Sunday to check whether they had a style 461232, which is a brogue. Within 2 1/2 hours I had a response from Bob and indeed they did, I replied with an email saying that I would be in soon but I would give them a telephone call to make sure that they had my size available. I called them and left a message to say that I would be in on Friday and I required a 9 1/2 or a 10 I asked for them to return my call indicating if they were able to service my requirements, I received a telephone call within 30 minutes, I do not recall the lady's name, informing them that they did have my sizes and they would put them by for me until I came in. I went, I was greeted by Bob, I explained to him that a long time ago I had bought shoes from duckers, I actually wore them to the shop so he could see, and he commented on how well I had kept them and clearly they had provided good service. Bob measured my feet, fitted the shoes, recommended that I should sit and wait while they warmed, to make sure that they did in fact still good. He advised me that they were very robust shoes and would require a fairly lengthy break in period. I told him that I was a toe walker rather than a ball of the foot walker, and he said that he would put some toe protection on the soles. We talked about the ledgers and then another customer came in and was looking for a very narrow belt, and the outcome of a fairly lengthy conversation Bob suggested that he could make a very narrow belt for him. I was still warming my shoes and making sure that all was well, I then paid for the shoes and left. He walked in front of me and open the door and then shook my hand and bid me farewell.
So, if you want some of the best shoes that you can buy, choose the original duckers styles, and go to duckers by them. That's what they do they make and sell great shoes. And I have to say I think the service was great however, one has to be objective, and it seems that some of the service may not be to the same standard that I have received. If that's what's important to you then go buy your shoes elsewhere. And there is a great possibility that your memory of the service that you receive at another establishment will last longer than the shoes!!!.
Duckers is a great shoe shop. One of the very best. Who am I, just a pretty ordinary person, not famous not rich, no posh accent, just someone who appreciates good shoes and knows where to get them. read more
