My wife and I are Americans (she's French-born) and are honeymooning in France spending part of our time in the Loire Valley. We stumbled on this place after the (typically) rude French waiter at Pickles turned us away from his empty restaurant at 8pm b/c we had no reservations - so happy we ended up here instead. The place was almost completely full compared to the 20 or so restaurants we strolled past earlier that had 1 or 2 tables occupied. Clearly the reputation is getting out that this place serves good food.
Burgers: I had the Chelsea and my wife had the Veggy - both were very good. Being from America we've both had our share of excellent and mediocre burgers - these were not mind-blowingly good but they were pretty damn good nonetheless. I liked the sauce and the original bun and the burger was cooked well, too.
Drinks: I had the Brooklyn Brewery Lager (American beer in France! That doesn't suck!). My wife had a Beaurdeaux that was pretty damn good as well - flavorful and smooth - she tells me that all the best wines come from the Loire valley and I'm beginning to believe it.
Fries were good - salty and cripsy - narrow and small so quite cruncy. The french don't always get "french fries" correct (in the American sense) and these were pretty good.
We chatted with the owner afterwards - we complimented him on the food and said we sensed a New York vibe - he said he had spent some time on the East Coast and London too. Good guy.
Go here for food - I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more
