This mural was part of the North Park Mural Project. You can find it in the back of a little alley behind the Belching Beaver Brewery and the Shaper Studios Surf Shop, hence the boards. It is the collaborative work of Platt College students, staff, and alumni, under the direction of artist Cesar Castañeda. It is a very simple design, but has to be given that people with little to no artistic experience (and probably ability) are bringing to life. It has the simple outline of some surfboards and skateboards against a mesmerizing deep purple background. I like that they even incorporated a roll up door on the wall and did not miss a beat.
Parking to get a closer look at this mural is very easy. There is a private lot right next to it or you can simply just pull into the alley that the mural is in front of. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. There are a ton of murals in the area to see including the famous Greetings from San Diego mural. read more
