Located in a lovely Amsterdam building high in the attic, that is were the atelier is hidden away. It looks like it has been there for ages and well, it has, almost 40 years this place is used for painting. I did a workshop here about a week ago and it was very inspiring and also a lot of fun. Your teacher, host and guide on your creative journey is the lovely Daniella and she sure does a great job. I highly recommend having a look at Molenpad's courses because I am sure most people will love this place.

Simply one of the best galleries around. Founded by the mother of current owner Robbert Jaski (she…read morehelps out occasionally), Jaski specializes in collector-level modern art. My partner and I visited in June 2022. My partner is a serious collector (Rothko, Hockney). He had been looking for a very specific Warhol for SEVEN years. We walked in Jaski and my partner casually asked, "You don't have [unintelligible -- to me -- series of numbers and letters identifying this particular work]?" Robbert said, "yes, I've got it." My partner nearly fainted. He got it that day. Not interested in paying five or six figures for art but want something excellent and reliable as a good value? Robbert is the guy. I've worked with dozens of gallery owners in amassing my own modest collection (not on the same level as my partner's). Robbert is rather unique. He believes all art lovers "have to start somewhere," and that starting place is usually modest. And, the beginner needs more care and advice than the expert collector. Art is tricky. You can waste a lot of money by "buying down" (a poster is worthless but can be expensive). Yet this leaves a novice vulnerable to "buying (overly) up" -- beyond their ability or appropriateness to their expertise and pocketbook. Robbert "gets" that conundrum. He reminds me of San Francisco gallery owner, Cheryl Haines, who guided me in my first purchases and gave me advice that I use to this day: stretch a bit in budgeting for a purchase. "If it "hurts" your wallet, you've found a good piece -- one whose value and pleasure to you will amortize well over time. Going cheap is rife with regret." Yes, this advice seems like a pitch by a seller to spend more money. But from a trusted and respected source, the advice is wise and sound. Robbert Jaski is such a source. They are rare.

There's nothing worse than feeling that snottiness in an art gallery or that you are too poor to…read morebrowse. At Jaski Art Gallery, everyone is welcome. I was peering through the window admiring the taxidermy art of Les Deux Garcons when Willy said hello. I asked if I could come in to take a look and then I found myself relaxing with a cup of illy espresso coffee and chatting about neighborhoods and art fairs. They are too kind at Jaski. I don't think this experience would ever happen to me in NYC. Jaski Art Gallery focuses mainly in contemporary art. They have quite a few pieces on hand and an impressive exhibit. I got to see the art of Chris Berens which is like staring into a dream. He painted an album cover for Blondie. It was hard to stray away from his work but my eyes kept moving back to the taxidermy art. Hamsters with guns and party hats? Chipmunk ballerinas? I've never seen such a thing. It was fascinating. Chipmunk ballerina's? Ik heb nog nooit zoiets gezien. Het was fascinerend.
