When I first walked by this place, I thought it was generically African, so I was interested, because I like Nigerien and Kenyan food. But when I realised that it's (mostly) Eritrean food, I was like "I must go!" because I adore injera, shuro, doro wat, and a host of other Eritrean/Ethiopian foods. In most places that I can find Injera at all, it's an Ethiopian restaurant. Finding an Eritrean place made it extra special, because I left my heart in Asmara.
Is it authentic? You betcha! Did I recognise most of the names on the menu? Actually, no. Partly, that's because I don't speak German. However, the staff do speak English, so I was able to figure out what I wanted. It was a Sunday night, so the buffet was open, which meant that I could have everything I wanted (which was, well, everything!)
The service was friendly and helpful, and the food was awesome. The one problem that I had was that the thermostat seemed to have been set to Massawa, rather than Asmara. So I was gasping by the time I got out of there. Still, I went home a very happy boy. read more
