That was ten hours ago, and they…read morehave left a line in my vein that is very irritated and painful after hours of having it there for no reason. When I mentioned that this amount of pain is not normal, they told me that they cannot look at it/possibly replace it because it would be a waste of materials. I would non be surprised if I was here for more than 12 hours, and I anticipate leaving the hospital way sicker than I was when I arrived (and I arrived with a concussion...) I would give this place 0 stars if I could.

Prof.Dr Peter Vajkoczy, medical director of neurosurgery, studied my previous MRT and then ordered a battery of tests - a new MRT, a CT and a device recording nerve responses to electrical impulses. Dr Vajkoczy's suspicion was confirmed. My pain was being caused by a pinched nerve in S1, a different segment than previously diagnosed. Prior to my minimally invasive operation I was given intensive care by a most capable staff. The operation itself was so successful that the excruciating pain had vanished as soon as I regained consciousness. I can only confirm that as far as I'm concerned the Charite's reputation as Germany's leading general hospital is wholly deserved. Leslie R.Colitt

At the time I didn't speak a word of german and they found someone to help translate what the doctor was saying for me. The hospital food here is pretty good. The rooms are extremely comfortable and clean. I've always been placed in a double room (I have public insurance) but I've seen rooms for 3 or more. The rooms are also quiet and there is Wifi available. I would say my only issue was getting a second opinion. The doctor I was seeing seemed really reluctant to consider any of another doctor's opinion. If you need an appointment here for something the wait times are very short! The hospital is easily accessible by tram and is an 8 euro taxi ride from Prenz'l berg. I've never had to wait more than 1 hour for anything in the emergency room.

Our experience with the SPZ was marked by significant difficulties in both the diagnostic and…read moremedical care process. Our son already had a confirmed autism diagnosis, issued by a multidisciplinary team after a three-month stay at a day clinic (Tagesklinik). Despite this diagnosis and his ongoing need for medical support (including the use of prescription psychiatric medication), our son was seen only once by a doctor at the SPZ over a period of eight months. No further appointments were offered during that time - neither for medication monitoring, clinical observation, nor for any additional diagnostic evaluation. No physical examinations or neurological assessments were carried out. The psychological assessment was based on very limited observations, without any continuous clinical follow-up. In our view, there was a lack of sufficient objective basis. Nevertheless, a medical-psychological report was issued that questioned the existing diagnosis, without clarifying how limited the doctor's actual contact with our child had been. What we found particularly concerning was that this very report was sent to the Youth Welfare Office (Jugendamt) and used to justify far-reaching measures - including a possible inpatient placement outside the family home. In our opinion, neither our child's living situation, medical history, nor the information provided by the parents was adequately taken into account. The report was based almost exclusively on feedback from the school. There were also serious language barriers, as no interpreter was made available to us during the entire process. Important aspects of school life and serious incidents (such as physical aggression and discrimination) were not mentioned or documented in the report. From our perspective, our child's well-being was not appropriately prioritized, and his medical needs were not handled with the necessary care. Based on this experience, we advise other families to proceed with caution when choosing a center for diagnostic assessment and care - especially when the child already has a complex medical history and is on ongoing medication.

I have very mixed feelings about the experience I had there as well (see Charité Mitte review). I…read morewas taken in on a Wednesday morning for surgery scheduled the next day. I arrived at the appointed time, I think 09:00 and waiting for approximately 2 hours before I was attended to by the intake nurse. They set me up with the anaesthesiologist and the assistant doctor on rotation. According to the anaesthesiologist whom I saw at approximately 17:00, my surgery was scheduled for approximately 13:00 the next day and that the chief surgeon was going to do the discectomy and fusion of Cervical spine 5 & 6. The nurses then made their rounds for the evening and somehow I could tell that maybe something was going right. I asked the nurse and he said that I wasn't on the operating schedule for the next day at all. He had just reviewed the updated list... So, one more day in hospital with nothing to do. They then told me that I was scheduled for the Friday, first thing. I fasted, showered with the special soap, laid in bed and waited and waited and waited. Finally, someone came at about 17:00 to tell me they wouldn't be able to operate on me. I was soooooo hungry that I virtually had no energy to get out of the bed to get some food. I proceeded to eat, get dressed and pack a few things to take home with me for the weekend. I was meant to get approval but they screwed me around so much I just left. I needed to get some sleep. They then phoned me at home and said that since I had been rescheduled twice they would put me in first thing the Monday morning and that I'd need to be back in hospital the Sunday evening. We did all the preparations again but this time, they actually did operate. I don't remember much of the rest of that day but the following morning there was a good of doctors with the chief and they were mainly mumbling amongst themselves and wouldn't answer any questions whatsoever. They said we'll be back but never came back until late that afternoon, they asked if I would go home. I said absolutely not. I was still in a lot of pain. Then they came back and said they would move me to another location in Steglitz, had me pack my bags with the help of a nurse. Then later said, no sorry, you're staying right here. The nurses were generally okay as were the physiotherapists. I think about one week later, a weekend doctor came in (Dr. Finger) who answered all my questions and was very patient. I saw him once after that in my 3 month follow up. They may be good but they need to learn that their reputation may not last long if they don't treat patients a bit better.
