Couldn't be happier learning with driveJohnson's. I turned 17 in May 2025 and booked a 30-hour course with Alex in Milton Keynes. Just passed first time and honestly buzzing! It's not just me either - both my sisters learnt with them and also passed first time, and I know five friends who've done the same. That many first-time passes really speaks for itself. Alex was a brilliant instructor. He kept lessons relaxed but made sure I was always improving. If I made a mistake he explained it clearly and never made me feel stressed. The 30-hour course worked perfectly - it covered everything from roundabouts to dual carriageways and manoeuvres without feeling rushed. By the time my test came around, I felt completely ready. Honestly still can't believe how quick I passed with driveJohnson's. From booking in at the office to the day of my test they actually cared about how I was doing, which you don't always get with driving schools. Everything was easy to set up and everyone I spoke to was friendly and helpful. Got paired up with Karen in London and she was just amazing. Proper patient, explained things in a way that made sense and never once made me feel stupid for getting stuff wrong. She always knew what I needed to practice and made the lessons feel relaxed but still focused. I was shocked how fast I improved - thought I'd be learning for months but Karen gave me the confidence to go for my test and I passed first time. Still buzzing about it tbh. Learning to drive can be stressful, but going with driveJohnson's honestly made the whole thing so much easier than I expected. From start to finish they were super helpful, quick to get me booked in, and really cared about making sure I had a good experience. The real hero though was my instructor, Paul Strat in London. Honestly, best instructor you could ask for. He was patient but also pushed me when I needed it, explained things really clear, and somehow made driving lessons fun (which I didn't think was possible lol). Every lesson felt like progress, and he never once made me feel bad for messing something up - he just turned it into practice. What I loved most was how fast I learnt. I'd heard horror stories of people dragging lessons out forever but with Paul and driveJohnson's I passed way quicker than I thought I would, and I still feel properly confident behind the wheel. Not just test-ready, but actually ready for real roads. Now I'm out here driving like a pro - probably the best driver you'll ever meet haha. Overall, I'd give driveJohnson's and Paul a big 10/10. Terrible first hand experience with this driving "school". My instructor would repeatedly turn up either half an hour or an hour late for the lesson, or half and hour or an hour earlier than the specified time. He would send me a text 30 min beforehand but that's not the point. Come on time, because I had the courtesy to be ready on time! Would constantly cancel on me in the run up to a booked practical test, giving excuses such as he has another student having a test that day so can't make it (why didn't he tell me beforehand then?), or can't do extra lessons because other students need to sort out childcare plans etc. Prioritising other students needs to the detriment of my own learning. Not until I changed to an AA driving instructor that I found out that DriveJohnsons instructor wasn't even teaching me half the test routes I need to know in order to pass! Including a bay park in the test centre car park that's on a steep incline! So basically rinsing me of my money for half a year! Well over a grand! When I finally got in touch with Ashleigh at the head office to cancel the rest of my lessons with him/them- she made the instructor call me to try and arrange a refund! Nevertheless, I put my foot down and a refund was promptly given without me having to speak to the instructor who has let me down and drank me of my money. A money pit of a company. I chose driveJohnson's because I was new to the Luton area. I asked friends and family on Facebook who was a good company and the same company kept coming up = driveJohnson's. They are known as the best in the town. Everyone passes with them! I was previously learning in London before relocating to Luton and I had a nightmare instructor before, hence, the apprehension to just take a lucky dip and call anyone up. Anyway, I had my first lesson with my driveJohnson's 'Jim'. It was a 2 hour assessment. At the end of the assessment 'Jim' said book my test , there was work to do but if I was willing to put 10-15 hours in - he promised me he could get me through first time. I booked the test immediately :-) - Jim turned up every lesson on time - All the lessons were structured, progress was recorded on a progress card and email reports were sent to me after each lesson with strengths and weaknesses - Lessons were fun and enjoyable - There were times other drivers would lose their patience with me, Jim dealt with these situations extremely well (especially compare to my previous instructor - his solution use to be the middle finger salute) - I took the test and passed with zero minors - I took just 11 hours to get to test standard (well happy with that) - driveJohnson's office also sent me a 'perfect driver - zero minor fault' award too which was a really nice touch. - I even received a courtesy email from the director personally congratulating me on getting zero minors. So pupils performance is monitored from the top too! If you are learning to drive in Luton, then driveJohnson's is a must and I recommend 'Jim' from my experience. Website claims a 92% first time pass rate against a national average of 46.7% for April-June 2015 (www.gov.uk). This is not due to excellence but due to them reserving the right to refuse lending the car for the test unless they are 100% sure you will pass. This lead to me losing the £62 practical test payment whilst being left in limbo regarding my driving due to a 3 1/2 month wait for the next practical test. The right to refuse the lending of the car for the test was only made clear after I had already paid the £570 30 hour fee and had already had over 6/30 hours of lessons which was far to late for me to change my mind with my test less than a week away. If this was made clear when I booked with Drive Johnsons 3-4 months prior I would not have used them. Also the instructor I had (Jim) tutted and sighed through mistakes, was patronising and sometimes downright insulting. For example on my second day I stalled twice behind a parked lorry leading to a van overtaking us both, where he responded that it was no wonder the van driver had lost patience with me as he had himself which is not something you want to hear as a nervous learner driver. I do not recommend using this company for intensive courses nor using the instructor I had. read more
