This is a seasonal market that runs from 10am-2pm every Thursday; mid-May through mid-September. They had a great variety of vendors. The food vendor that caught my eye had lobster rolls. There were two or three stands for fresh produce. They also had a few craft vendors and vendors selling homemades like soaps and dog treats. Only 1 MLM company from what I noticed. They also had a few local organizations. I spent most of my time talking to the local 4H Office representatives. As a former 4-Her this was a really nice surprise! This is a great way to spend a Thursday afternoon in Newport News, plus parking is free! You can also enjoy the shops and restaurants throughout City Center! The LOVE NN sign is just around the corner. You can get a new profile pic to proudly show your love for Newport News and it's hidden treasures... like this market!

A Fife and Drum band played and marched through numerous times and they had a great husband and wife duet singing and playing electric keyboard which added a nice festival feel to the beautiful sunny day with breezes blowing off the river. There are a few shops in the market area including a gift shop, bookstore with great used books, many on local history, some outdoor outfitters and a Ben and Jerry's. I recommend going early. The market starts at 8. We arrived around 930 and it was already very very crowded but luckily we found a parking spot in their small parking garage.

The selection here is immense with a large variety of jarred goods, drinks, dairy products and even meats. I ended up buying a jar of pickled watermelon rinds and sweet potato butter. Both were delicious selections that I haven't really seen anywhere else. The cashier was really nice and bagged my items for me. They only accept Cash or Checks, not CC. This prevented me from grabbing more, so I'd definitely recommend coming prepared with cash so you can get everything you'd like. The prices are fair and cheaper than what you'd find in the grocery store, so it's a decent trade-off for the cash-only model!

I don't go to Farmers Markets often and after visiting this booth I think I might start making it a weekly thing. The flower bouquets were to die for. They have some of the prettiest flowers I've ever seen. I was able to get a very full bouquet for just $8! They also sell bouquets with paper that are $12 and a bit bigger. They also have fresh produce. I got some yellow and green zucchini, the perfect summer veggie! They were selling other greens and vegetables too. I can't wait to bring my friends to this booth. They had a generous selection of items: steaks (ribeye, t-bone, porterhouse, NY strip, sirloin, filet mignon, hangar/flank, skirt/flatiron), beef heart/tongue/liver, marrow bones, oxtails, brisket, and short ribs; ground beef, beef patties, roast (chuck, sirloin, rump, and bottom round), London broil, tri-tip; pork (tenderloin, bacon, bone-in pork chops, St. Louis ribs, smoked ham hocks, and Boston butts); there were also smoked and regular sausages! I know that the next time, I'll bring a cooler so I can stock up on their oxtails and pick up some steaks! The staff here was super friendly and welcoming, and, if you're lucky, they have some samples for you to try (they had juicy sausages when we were there). I love coming to the farmers market after we get some breakfast around the corner and even if we just walk through and don't even buy anything.
