Her pups were just barely born at the time, but instead of just shoving her pups at me, we just spoke about random topics getting to know each other during winter. Because she knew I had been scammed prior to talking with her about buying a puppy, she was patient as she answered all my questions about her, her puppies, and how they were being raised and she took the same time to get to know me as a pet owner and what she was looking for as a potential customer/parent for one of her puppies. Not only did she have an application, but she called every one of my references, (and I know that detail because my friends told me she called and she spoke with my husband since I put his name down as a reference), and she agreed to have a video call with me show me the puppies all of which proved to me that she is a legit breeder. She had already named each pup, but it was no problem to ask if we could rename our chosen pup even before we were able to take her home and she agreed. Our little girl even took her new name really well, going from Elf to Rayla (who is an elf from a show called Dragon Prince)! We love our little pup and Dawn was awesome to work with.

She said she wasn't allowing people because of Covid. I said I understood but would need to see where the puppy was whelped. She told me it was illegal for me to come to the kennel. I called the state department of health and her county department of health. It is not illegal. If she didn't want to sell me a puppy that is her right and all she had to say. But to lie and say it was illegal is a big red flag. If she's lying about this, is she lying about her puppies?

I received a message a week ago congratulating me that Britney/mom had come into heat, after waiting for two months we were so excited! Then this morning we get this message, apparently this breeder only breeds her dogs if she has a wait list already established?!? What a bunch of BS! Obviously not a legitimate breeder or they're having extreme financial issues. I never would have gone into contract with her if I knew this is how she does business. I could have already had a puppy now for my 10 month puppy who is grieving the loss of my other dog.... instead of this bait and switch. They need to disclose to buyers that they ONLY pre sell puppies - I couldn't recommend this breeder less! Stay away.

We had a great chat and she explained that sometimes dogs aren't able to find homes as they are too old, aggressive, unsociable etc. If this is the case Kasha keeps the dogs herself. So she has 7 misfit dogs at home because she won't allow them to be put in harm's way. Kasha and her colleagues are truly incredible people who dedicate their lives to the welfare of our canine friends. So I was shocked to see negative reviews. There are always a few idiots, those entitled individuals who require instant gratification. Anyone who has ever owned a dog knows it's a little tough to begin with but you put in the work and you'll end up with a best friend for life. Our Stella was nothing short of a miracle. We got her just before the pandemic and we would have struggled to get through it without her. I can't thank you enough Kasha and all the heroes at Furfriends.

Yes, their adoption form is insanely long as others have stated (see attached photos), and the questions about employers are a little sketchy. Are they going to contact mine because of a bad review? So be it if they do. My biggest problem is that they require you to PAY FOR THE DOG and sign a contract BEFORE even SCHEDULING a meet-n-greet with you and your current pet(s). And when I was kind enough to tell them I had a meet-n-greet scheduled with another dog before sending them money THEY IMMEDIATELY CANCELED OUR APPLICATION VIA TEXT WITHOUT ANY DISCUSSION. SMELLS LIKE A SCAM. They aren't listed on Google Maps either. Are they legit? IDK, but I'm relieved that they canceled our application after 2 vetting phone calls.

I came from the Beaverton area and it was about a 45 min drive (at 6 AM & no traffic). I met with Lisa Beggio, CNED (the Executive Director of CHS) who gave my kittens the vaccine herself. She was very gentle with them and also very nice and informative. I can tell the shelter is extremely busy as it's not only ran off volunteers but has lots of animals to care for! But within her busy morning, she took the time to answer my questions about my kittens and the adoption / neutered process. She made me feel reassured and supported and I knew my boys would be well cared for. Furthermore, I learned more about CHS and I am thoroughly impressed! (I hadn't heard of them before i adopted my kittens (sadly!)) CHS is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This means they do not receive any national or state funding and they solely rely on donors, small grants, fundraisers, adoption fees (so please donate!!!) This shelter genuinely cares for the health and welfare of any animals that come into their care. This is part of why I wanted to take the time to write a review to not only help spread awareness about the shelter and the incredible work they do, but also because I've had a great experience adopting my kittens who have brought so much joy/love/and happiness into my life. I want to thank the shelter and their volunteers for taking care of my kittens since they were born and through fostering. CHS has a great fostering program called the Queen Program. This program offers FREE SPAY SERVICES for mother cats if the owner surrenders the kittens to the shelter for adoption. This program helps to prevent unwanted litters, provides medical care, and helps rehome kittens ALL WHILE ensuring the mother cat is fixed and safely returned home. I adopted my kittens through the Queen Program and I am one happy customer! Furthermore, having the opportunity to foster helps with their socialization and acclimation to a home environment, which I think has made the transition to bringing them into their new home (with me) sooo smooth. I'm a first time cat owner too and I'm surprised with how easy it has been. All cats/kittens are different so experiences will vary of course, but I feel incredibly lucky! (Thank you to their Foster Mom Allison -- she played a huge role in this. Used to work at CHG but now volunteers. She very thoughtfully took paw prints of the kittens when they were younger and Lisa gave the copies to me today! What a kind and thoughtful gesture!) Going back to the benefits of fostering.... My kittens are already litter trained and I've had no issues keeping them in an enclosure (while I'm at work as I'm not quite ready to let the run around unsurprised yet!). Another person who helped make all of this happen and whom I want to recognize is Patricia. She is retired and works as a volunteer at CHS overseeing their adoption program. Patricia was the one who emailed me with the exciting news I've been accepted to adopt! She was flexible with arranging a time to speak on the phone to discuss more about the kittens and adoption process. She was very kind, informative, and answered all my questions. Overall, CHS deserves more credit and recognition for all they do. Please remember to be patient with the staff too as they spend a majority of their time caring for the animals. Call the shelter for more info about the program at (503) 397-4353 or email info@columbiahumane.org
