We needed to get a sewer line replaced after discovering a rodent problem on our property. Turns out, rats were coming up through the sewer line and digging holes under our prized Japanese maple, which had been planted right on top of the sewer line. Shane (owner) and his team were very responsive and communicated clearly throughout the entire process which is super remarkable and important to us. They understood the importance of saving the tree and figured out how to work without damaging it at all while still doing their job. They listened to our needs but also communicated very well - every step of the project was clearly articulated, there were no surprises or overages on budget, and the team on site were always polite, jovial, hard working (even in 90 degree heat), and cleaned up well after themselves. They dealt with the city in terms of pulling permits and having Portland's sewer crew dig a hole on the street which saved us thousands of dollars; Shane explained risks and possible problems that may arise during the project so that we were prepared in the event that something went south; and it was extremely reassuring to see the owner of the company show up early every day and get his hands dirty and not leave until the day's work was done. There is not a slacker in this group and it is clear that Drain Away not only knows what they are doing, but also knows how to speak to customers and communicate clearly. From initial contact & scope to job complete took about a month. I would use Drain Away again in a heartbeat (but hope i never have to!). We had blocked kitchen sink. I tried to get it with a 25 foot snake but no luck. Called Drain Away and then sent Matt out same day. He went to work and found the blockage about 50 feet down then line. He was in and out in under an hour. He also taught me about why disposals are problematic in old house and set me on the clear out in the basement so I could watch the blockage pass by as he cleared it. Had a weird problem with the plumbing causing overflows in the bathtub, toilet, and water in the basement. My regular plumber thought it was the sewer line and sent me to the experts at Drain Away Rooter. Jake came out the next morning, arrived right on time, I explained all the weird stuff going on with the plumbing and within 5 minutes he diagnosed the problem - blocked sewer line. He was very upfront about the costs I would incur and what I really appreciated is he didn't waste time and money chit-chatting with me, he got after it immediately. After scoping the line he found the block was out in the street which belongs to the city, so he called them immediately and waited for them to arrive then helped me explain to them what had happened and what the resulting damage was. They were in contact with Oregon City utilities and the problem has been turned over to the company that caused the sewer line blockage. Everyone at Drain Away Rooter were courteous, friendly, efficient, and tried their best to limit any damage to my property while digging. Jake from Drain Away came today to check out my shower drain that wasn't draining and my kitchen sink trap that has been on and off leaking for the last year. Jake did a really great job. He gave me great advice so that I can go fix the kitchen sink myself since it is straight forward, snaked our drain out to 20 feet (sounds simple but it took a while and we do not have the industrial snake that Jake used),and gave me some really good advice on cleaning out all my drains myself to prevent future blockages. I will be definitely calling Jake at Drain Away again. While the amount they charge per hour seems very high, Jake got so much done in the time he was here that it did seem really fair in the end. As a side note, he also came out 2 years ago to check out our sewer line that needed replacing per request by the city. Since they had the sewer line open on the street, we were on a tight schedule to get it done before the city closed up the hole in the street. But, Drain Away was totally booked and couldn't do it, Jake really helped us out by referring us to a company that was able to do the job for a fair price. All other companies I called wanted to charge more and were not able to squeeze us in. I think that company squeezed us in due to Jake's call. I truly can't say enough about their technician Troy Leighton. I had another company come out and attempt to find out what was wrong with my system, after 7 hours at my house and at 11:30 at night they left me high and dry. I then spoke with them again the next day and they were going to excavate my yard and cost my thousands of dollars. I spoke with Drain Away Rooter and they sent Troy out to my house, within 45 minutes he figured out what the problem was, had a solution and had my house back in order. This was to locate the cleanout that was hidden in a sealed hole in the garage. He was friendly, good with the pets, and most importantly understood the plumbing and fixed it. This is the 2nd time I've used Drain Away Rooter with great disappointment. The first time I was told we had leaks under our manufactured home and would have to remove all of the insulation to repair them... we did not have a leak anywhere. The second time I called and explained the problem I was told the problem would be diagnosed and fixed (if possible). The service person had no idea how he would diagnose or fix the problem, but could run a camera for an additional fee. I called these guys about a slow draining tub late last week and they had their handyman, Jake, come out the very next day! Jake was super friendly and very knowledgeable and he located the problem quickly. The people who'd built the bathtub must've just rushed through it, he thought. There was a thick buildup of mortar in the drain and they hadn't even finished installing the overflow drain! (My Dad just bought this house) Anyway, Jake cleared out the mortar and opened up the overflow drain and gave it all a good rooting and it worked great afterwards. On his way out, we started talking about the lines outside of the house. The neighbors just had a pipe bust and it totally flooded their house! They had clean-up crews outside and most of their furniture had to be removed. And so to be safe, he thought we ought to check the line in the yard that goes out to the street. I'm glad we did, because when i saw that it wasn't connected to any other sewer pipes except for the street, i breathed a sigh of relief. Plus, it was kinda fun getting to watch the yard get a colonoscopy! And it turns out, the neighbors line into his toilet is what broke and flooded his house, but i'm still glad to know that our sewer lines are clean. Very fast service and very fair price. They were here within an hour of my call. My kitchen sink was not draining. The service tech figured out the problem and had my drain cleared in about 45 minutes. He even re-routed the pipe beneath my sink to make the next repair easier without charge. He also gave me a sink stopper because I didn't have one. This company was referred to me from a local professional plumber. Drain Away did the job for $159. I called these guys on a Friday afternoon when the selling of our house depending on something being done ASAP. The buyers had required a sewer scope but it was discovered our house didn't have a sewer outlet and our toilets "contained too many 90 degree turns to be scoped."
