This is the first place I visit when in town or passing through Mammoth Springs/ Thayer. I must have passed it a dozen times before my daughter finally convinced me to check it out. If you don't find what you want up front, be sure to ask. They had exactly what I was looking for in the back (black and white SSOC) at very reasonable prices. I let my daughters pick from the boxes up front. Neither was interested in comics before. (January 2018 update: the previous owner passed away) read more

Dragon's Gate Comics specializes in vintage comics, action figures and memorabilia as well as autographed and custom artwork. Although we don't carry new comics, we do occasionally get newer items in stock and can also order items on request.

History

Established in 2015.

Dragon's Gate Comics opened in December 2015, a small beacon of general nerdiness in an area that didn't have any dedicated comic stores for nearly two hours in any given direction. The shop opened with an advertising budget of $0 and has slowly built a following strictly from word-of-mouth. We're still small, but we're growing, and we're committed to providing the best service and selection we can.

Meet the Business Owner: Chris R.

I've been a comic fan since I was six years old. I fell in love with the rich history and memorable characters Marvel and DC had to offer, and before long I was a walking encyclopedia of random comic book knowledge. My parents supported my growing addiction because--hey--at least it got me excited about reading! As I got older and realized I had neither the skill nor the patience to become skilled as a comic writer or artist, I pursued a degree and eventually a career in journalism. Moving back to my hometown after college for family reasons, I took a job at a local newspaper, but after a while I realized it just wasn't for me, and I had some success selling some of my comic books on the side. One day, at a local event, I was offered the opportunity to open up my own shop in nearby Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, and I haven't looked back!
