Loved the indoor/ outdoor bathrooms. The two pools were so peaceful and refreshing, one with a fantastic ocean view. We spent many days just relaxing in the pool with family. Also the whole family loved having the roaming chickens, duck, and Dolly the friendly sheep. The day of the wedding, it was so nice and easy to have the wedding on site. In the morning we made breakfast with fresh eggs from the chickens, and herbs from the garden. We took a dip in the pool, and made mai tais. The vendors showed up and created the wedding of our dreams. For our wedding we had a day of coordinator to insure smooth coordination between site, vendors, and set up. Our wedding planner took care of communications making the day seamless and relaxing. We were looking for a very authentic, casual, intimate setting with natural beauty, where we could relax and enjoy the day. This place exceed our expectations! Will definitely be back. Recently we brought a few friends with us and wanted to do some touristy things that we had never tried before. We found the Giving Tour, and hands-down - this is the best trip we have had to date on this island ever! Sam and Dev live on the Island and are just absolutely wonderful human beings, extremely warm, reliable, knowledgeable at the about the island and the area and passionate about helping people and giving back to their beautiful island. Dev is a riot, there are no dull moments when she is around! Sam is a Jack of all trades who always has a fresh coconut on hand to crack open and share. We booked the farm lunch and tour and it was amazing! The farm is on a beautiful 20 acre property that will blow your mind. It filled with so many different kinds of fruits and vegetables and even animals! The spread we had for lunch was out of this world... We ate until we could barely move. The farm tour was awesome, Travis, the garden manager showed us the garden with all of his awesome medicinal plants and tasty veggies then we got the grand tour with so many exotic fruit trees to sample from and plants from around the world to marvel at. This is not a tour that you can pick out of any random guidebook. We became closer as friends, and made some awesome friends at the farm. This is an insiders look into life on the island, and I cannot recommend it enough! If you want a run-of-the-mill tour with long lines and manufactured entertainment, this is not the tour for you. This is a behind the scenes look at this beautiful island and culture. You will have tons of fun, meet amazing people, eat incredible food and have memories that will last a lifetime. His knowledge of Waipiʻo Valley, its history, culture, people, agriculture, waterways and the relationship between the community and the land, was extraordinary. He didn't simply drive us through a beautiful place, he helped us understand what we were seeing and why this valley is so sacred and deserving of respect. Equally important was the sense of safety Seanry created for our group. Navigating the incredibly steep road into Waipiʻo is no small thing, yet I felt completely comfortable in his hands. He was attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely cared about everyone's experience. Initially, I was disappointed to learn that the tour's permit does not include access to the black sand beach but once we entered the valley, however, that disappointment disappeared. There is SO much more to Waipiʻo than its beach. The waterfalls, taro fields, freshwater springs, wild horses, vegetation, history and people who continue to call the valley home made this one of the most meaningful experiences I've had on Hawaiʻi Island and throughout my world travels. The value for the money is beyond words. What you receive isn't simply transportation into a place most visitors can no longer access by vehicle or on foot, you receive an education and a deeper appreciation for Waipiʻo that you simply cannot get by standing at the lookout with another tour bus. I also came away understanding why these permitted tours are so important. If we ever hope to see responsible public access to the road expanded again, visitors need to understand how to enter this sacred place with respect, for the residents, the culture, the land and the fragile ecosystem. Experiences like this provide that education. If you are visiting the Big Island, do not just drive to the lookout or take another tour bus, take a picture and leave. Take THIS tour. Go into the valley. Listen to its stories. Learn about the people who have lived there and those who still do. Understand the land you're standing on. Waipiʻo deserves to be more than something we photograph. It deserves to be understood, respected and protected. As described below, this is due to both the incredible accommodations and the even more incredible family that lives on the farm. The description and pictures on the website are extremely accurate; the apartment is beautifully appointed and decorated, while also being extremely clean and organized. Unlike many other places we've stayed, this place truly feels like a home. And this is because it is! Although separate from the owner's living area upstairs, the apartment feels like part of the home. The books and records have been collected over many years, and the board games used to belong to the owner's (Kaye's) children. Also, though the house was built in the 1930's, it's been updated with modern amenities, including a small but easy-to-cook-in kitchen, and a beautifully updated bathroom. And throughout the apartment you'll find gorgeous art created by members of Kaye's family. The farm itself, which consists of a very charismatic pig, chickens, a rabbit, and several cats and dogs, is so charming. We loved just strolling around the property and soaking it all in. We also loved eating everything that came in the welcoming garden gift basket left at our doorstep by Kaye. It consisted of fresh eggs, lettuce, green onion, carrots, and more. It was so delicious! Overall, this farmstay was exactly what my husband and I were looking for. Our vacation was incredibly relaxing, while also being interesting and educational because we were able to learn so much about Hawai'i from Kaye. Her knowledge of Hawai'i history and its native plants was simply fascinating. The owner, Kaye, is a wonderful woman and great to talk to. We spent a great evening talking about the area, Hawaiian culture, and life on the big island. This is a big deal to me as I am so OCD and a germaphobe, even before Covid! But it was so clean. The linen were fresh and crisp. Convenient. Especially since we were visiting family right in Hawi, but there's an amazing little gas station with the very best fried chicken! In the morning they had a great cup of coffee too, but there's also a cute coffee shop well within walking distance, if you're looking for something a little fancier.
