I visited most of the eyeglass places in town trying to get in on my day off and did not have much luck, most seemed not to care if they had my business or not. I went to Dr Tavel, spoke to the first person I saw which was Alec. He seemed to want my business and was extremely professional. He got me in the same day. When I met the Doctor he was very personable and professional. I feel appreciated, and was thankful that I was not pressured to spend more than I needed to. I'm writing this as someone who has a very high prescription (above -10 in both eyes) and has been wearing glasses for 20+ years. I have had a difficult time getting glasses elsewhere. Part of having a prescription like mine means there are often some errors or adjustments that have to happen with my glasses no matter where I get them. At other places, when such things happen it has been difficult to get them to correct any errors with my lenses. Getting my glasses through Dr. Tavel was the absolute best experience I've ever had. They didn't try to upsell me and helped me select the right frames and lenses for my prescription, style, and budget. Also, when there were some minor issues with my lenses, they didn't brush me off and tell me to just "try wearing them a few more days" (which has happened elsewhere); they recognized that, since I've been wearing glasses for a long time, I could distinguish between the normal adjustment to a new prescription and something really being off. This was SUCH a relief because it was evident the staff understood the specific needs for my vision, trusted that I know what it feels like to be able to see well with glasses, and were committed to making sure my glasses were perfect for me. They were very quick to fix the issue at no cost and with no second guessing me when I said that something was off. Getting my glasses at Dr. Tavel has been the most painless, stress free experience getting glasses in my adult life. I worked most directly with Carrie, who was wonderful and very knowledgeable, but all the staff I talked to were friendly, professional, and understanding about the specific needs of my prescription. Also, they have a great selection of frames! This will be the only place I go in town to get glasses in the future. Aside from the staff being generally rude, this place is just incompetent. I had an eye exam at the Greenwood indiana location. Because I was about to move I paid the extra to have my glasses sent to the Terre Haute location. They didn't make it. Instead they went to greenwood. Rather than letting me drive the hour to get them and refunding me, the employee (who had told me they were there when I called 5min before) railroaded me, cut me off, and insisted that if I would just let her order them they would be here the next day. They weren't! They had to go back to the corporate office and it took 4 more days for them to arrive. When they did arrive they adjusted them but I was concerned for the length of the legs. When I asked about an exchange they were really snippy and rude. There was one guy who was nice and helpful but I can't do business with a company that sucks otherwise for the sake of one person. Horrible customer service. Stood in the store for 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. Employees too busy being social rather than working. Had to ask for help to get that acknowledgement. Don't waste your time here. Go elsewhere for your glasses and vision needs. read more

I have never in all my years of eye care meet anyone as knowledgeable as their store Manager Mr. Michael Hopkins. He truly cares about his customers. The time was taken to explain everything and he did an amazing job in helping pick out frames that would compliment my face. In this day and age when customers are a second thought and businesses have put profit over their customers. Its nice to see that Dr Tavel still provides their customers with a level of customer service we deserve.
