Having a deep love and appreciation of music, I have always wanted to play an instrument. In fact, I made sure my son had every opportunity to play music once he demonstrated a desire to do so. I have had the pleasure of witnessing how enriched his life has been because of his relationship to music and am very proud that he is a wonderful, talented, musician today. It was with this in mind that I finally realized I had run out of excuses. It was time to learn to play an instrument myself. I set out to review multiple local guitar instructors and decided to call Dr. G. I am so pleased that I did. As one of his students, I have grown to experience music in ways I could only imagine before. Dr. G has been an extremely generous and patient teacher. There have been multiple occasions during our lessons where I marveled at my own growth. My nascent understanding of theoretical principles of music, and my ever-growing skillset on a guitar have now enriched my own life. Generous with his time and efforts to help me meet my goals, Dr. G has never rushed a lesson even while keeping to a schedule for his other students. He provides online access to a wealth of resources, including recordings of our lessons, for my review. Above this, he makes himself available outside of our lessons. We have multiple exchanges where I reached out to ask for advice or clarification and he has always responded in a timely, thoughtful, manner while providing additional instruction. Many of our lessons have been informed by these exchanges and I am often taken aback by his commitment to my goals and interests. Indeed, my lessons have always been catered to my interests and my goals. Ever the patient instructor, Dr. G has never judged my progress on the basis of my own shortcomings. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but Seth was able to teach this old dog how to play guitar! I've always wanted to learn to play guitar, and at 36, I realized there wasn't really anything stopping me except for me. Due to time constraints, I only took lessons for 3 months but I thoroughly enjoyed our time together. Seth is meticulous about technique so you learn the right way, and he's great about instilling the fundamentals so you can really understand the concepts for faster progression. I was a bit worried about learning a brand new instrument in my middle age: rewiring the brain to accept newness is just more challenging at this point in life when frustration is quick to occur. My son took lessons from several other instructors but always found they were pushing their own agenda and not truly engaged with his interests and what he wanted to learn.
