Bread & Roses - culinary poetry
Great evening, but let's start from the beginning:
Star chef Volker Drkosch has opened this place in May 2016 and is now cooking for his guests.
It's not the area in Düsseldorf, in which you would expect such a restaurant really, but that makes it even more interesting, in my point of view.
The restaurant seem to have been a snack bar previously, but that does not change the charm of this place.
It is really small, only room for approx. 15 guests.
It's well decorated and the highlight is that the cook is preparing the plates right in front of you, behind the bar. It seems that you sit in the kitchen almost!
During our dinner, we enjoyed the chefs choice menu and did exactly right! Fantastic tastes and creative combinations. I'd recommend to take the chefs choice menu, you'll get a good mix of everything.
The food is served in little - tapas like - portions. Therefore you need to take a few more to fight your hunger...
This leads me to one point, which is important to consider before eating here:
It's a place to enjoy tastes and high class food, where you need to bring time.
If you are looking for good food and a few drinks maybe, this is probably not your place.
If you are in for a nice evening with your partner or good friend and you want to enjoy something special, this is a must-go.
At last, the wines... we did something very unusual... we started red... changed to white and came back to red... And it was great!
Fantastic wines! Ask the chef, he will give you a good recommendation!
I enjoyed the restaurant very much! I encourage you to give it a try and to Mr. Drkosch: Good luck! read more
