Dr. Baldomero Garcia's big claim to fame is having attended Harvard Medical School. At first, Dr…read more Garcia appeared to have a fairly pleasant demeanor. However, after successive visits, and failing any results in addressing or understanding my numerous medical issues, Dr. Garcia's demeanor evolved on different days. His appearance of competence was always questionable, but it took some time to see just how lacking in competence he appears to be. I visited Dr. Garcia for severe back and neck pain, dizziness, gait issues, weakness in the limbs, and other related issues. Knowing that I have PTSD, Dr, Garcia initially suggested that all my pain and other issues were related to PTSD. However, he reluctantly referred for an MRI, and a Neurologist, after I asked to be checked to make certain I did not have Multiple Sclerosis, or some similar autoimmune disorder. I had brought a list of issues that I was experiencing to the first of the last two appointments I ever had with him. However, once he found that I needed a note for disability purposes, verifying that I was currently having medical issues evaluated, his demeanor changed. He began to treat me as though I were attempting to comment some manner of disability fraud. I had not asked for a diagnosis, just verification that I was seeing a doctor. The last appointment was an exercise in dismissiveness. He again dismissed all my issues to not drinking enough water, PTSD, and not drinking enough milk. What Dr. Garcia ended up missing, because of his unwillingness to treat my symptoms seriously, was that I had severe cervical spinal stenosis with two pinched nerves, which ultimately required surgery to repair, via a spinal fusion. I was also diagnosed with Essential Tremor, requiring follow up work to assess the level of damage to my nerves after being subjected to grinding between cervical vertebrae which no longer had any functional discs. I am not suggesting that there was any legally actionable neglect. However, had Dr. Garcia put his enormous ego in his back pocket, and actually listened to what I was telling him, without allowing his own prejudices to color his judgment, I might have arrived at a plan of treatment many months before I did, and avoided pain, and nerve damage that progressed rapidly before my surgery.
