He became nonresponsive, consistently late, and unbelievably unorganized. It got worse thru the years and I should of left at least 10 years earlier but I stayed. I had been there so long, I figured he knew me, knew my tax history, starting over would be a pain, etc. etc. It finally became too much, too late, I had enough. For the first time in years, I found myself looking for someone to assist with my taxes. I tried various CPA's, and obtaining an appointment was like pulling teeth. I came across Eileen, probably thru YELP, and began to do a bit of research about her. She was not a CPA. Would I be missing tax benefits if I didn't see a CPA? All in all, reviews for Eileen were stellar and I was losing patience with attempted appointment settings for CPA's hence, I contacted Eileen's office and set up a consultation. No nonsense here as she quickly told me what I can do, what I can't, what makes sense, and what in the world was this thing I called record keeping??? I didn't agree with none of it. In fact, I pretty much disagreed with everything she said. In order to get back on track, Eileen suggested I do A, B, C, and don't forget E, F, and G. She was patient, listened to my complaints, my disagreements, and my overall rational but calmly explained how and what needed to be done and most importantly, why. And yes, it was going to cost me. But it was honest, I felt good, and down deep, I knew I was in good hands. I could trust her and felt she not only knew what she was doing but had my best interests in mind. She explained strategies that would lessen financial tax burdens, what records I needed to maintain, how to effectively organize them, and what I needed to present to her so she could provide the best results possible. In other words, without me doing what I needed to do, how could she? I have grown possess a very healthy respect for Eileen and her overall demeanor and expertise. I have been with her for three years and fully intend to continue. I will still argue with her here and there but to me, she is a consummate professional that will get you back on track and make sure your taxes are in excellent shape. And she will tell you the truth. She is fair, price conscious, and exceptionally good at what she does. Helping me with this would have reduced the final bill and proven her work was accurate in that one instance. The owner refused to help in any way, stating that my taxes are no longer her responsibility. This is not only frustrating but completely unethical. If you make a mistake on a client's return, you have a responsibility to help them fix it, especially when they paid you for a professional service.
