My expectations were low considering that there weren't many places in the area to choose from. When I drove by I was immediately drawn in by the curb appeal. This business is a renovated house with a couple of cute picnic tables and umbrellas in the front. Upon entering I was immediately loving the welcoming vibe and the Modern farm house decor. There were plenty of areas to hang out and enjoy a nice book while sipping some coffee. If I lived nearby I would definitely make this place a nice quiet recharge zone for myself. The display case was filled with all kinds of yummy baked goods! Everything looked so delicious that it was difficult for me to decide what to get. There were cookies, cupcakes, muffins, brownies, stuffed croissants, various loaf slices... the list goes on! They also had a very nice selection of hot and cold coffee drinks as well as tea and fresh squeezed lemonade. It took me a while to decide what to get... in the end I regretted not buying more, lol. I purchased a Pecan oatmeal cookie (that thing was HUGE), a strawberry stuffed croissant, and a lemon Blueberry cupcake. I also got an iced coffee and a strawberry lemonade. I was surprised to find out that every single item was a win! My hubby is a picky eater and it takes a lot to impress him when it comes to trying something new. He LOVED his strawberry lemonade and strawberry stuffed croissant! The lemonade wasn't overly sweet, it was perfect! The strawberry stuffed croissant had a yummy creamy mix of whipped cream and cream cheese for the filling with fresh strawberries. The powdered sugar was a nice finishing touch. After having a bite I wish that I had bought an extra one. The lemon Blueberry cupcake was amazing! It was very moist and the cake part wasn't overly sweet. It had some yummy fresh blueberries baked into the bottom. The Pecan oatmeal cookie was very yummy. It took us a while to finish it because of how big it was. My iced coffee was also very good. We were super impressed with the selection and quality of what this place offered. I wish that there was a place exactly like this near me. We will definitely be back!

It wasn't easy picking out a cake since everything looked sweet & delicious. I did try the piña colada cake slice & thought it was very good. The custom made cakes in the cooler looked even more delicious, but none of those were available for sale by the slice. The creativity of the cake designs were up most, very impressive. It's gourmet cake quality inside a little casita bakery! It's another reason why I enjoy visiting border towns. Sometimes you come across a hidden gem like El Dulce Pasteleria. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a cool, relaxed vibe that immediately made a good first impression. For breakfast, I ordered the eggs Benedict, my wife chose a vegetarian scrambled egg dish, our kids split pancakes, and my oldest son ordered the steak and eggs. We also added two sides of sausage patties. Unfortunately, the kitchen was very slow considering the restaurant wasn't especially busy. Service also wasn't particularly attentive during the wait, and we were left wanting drink refills for quite a while. Once the food arrived, there were some definite highlights. My eggs Benedict were good, with perfectly runny yolks. My wife enjoyed her entrée, and the kids liked the pancakes. The standout was actually my son's steak. The ribeye served over potatoes was very good, perfectly cooked, and had excellent flavor. Unfortunately, the scrambled eggs alongside it weren't nearly as successful. They came out more like a uniform yellow mass rather than the light, fluffy scrambled eggs you'd expect. The sausage was another example of the inconsistent execution. We ordered two sides: one was noticeably overcooked while the other seemed slightly undercooked. Overall, The Local Fix has a great atmosphere and the kitchen is clearly capable of putting out some very good food--the ribeye in particular was impressive. Our experience was just inconsistent. Better attention to cooking consistency, faster kitchen times, and more attentive service would have made this a much stronger meal. I'd be willing to give them another try based on the dishes they did well.
