The staff was friendly and informative. The exhibits were very well organized with each room having a separate theme. One notable thing was the volunteers working at looms to make carpets and place mats. We bought one; excellent quality - hand-made the way it was done before mass production. Admission is free; we left a donatiion. We spent about 90 minutes here seeing the various way life was starting in 1880 and through to almost 1980. The museum is only open from 10:00 A - 2:00 P on MWF and Saturday. Plan accordingly. The top floor boasts an old courthouse. The basement carries a lot of equipment from 100 years ago. Lots to see.

All associates are aware of which order books to show customers for the best quality dining room sets versus bedroom sets. Everything can be ordered and finished to your personal preference! I ordered my kitchen table and chairs from Hitt's in 2014 and a new bed and headboard this year. Family members have ordered 3 different sets of living room furniture over the years, and when any of these need replaced, we know where to go! I come up from Indiana to get my furniture from Hitt's because I know that I will be taken care of here. They are all about their customers. Replaced your mattress and don't know what to do with the old one? They'll take it away for you when they deliver the new one! My sister ordered a sectional and one of the pieces came out of the box with a slice in the leather--the owner said if she can't fix it then she'll call the company and get a new one to replace it. They have treated us the way every business should for 15 years now. I never trust anywhere but Hitt's for my furniture.

Some nice ladies in a closed restaurant directed me to the golf course country club. Advising I don't have to be a member and the food is great as it usually is at golf courses. The club is charming with a narrow road that looks to be the original except paved over leading to a couple of ample parking lots. The dining area was empty and the manager friendly as he explained the two specials and gave me a menu. There is a full bar and a small selection of items for dining. The special was $7 and has to be the bargain of the area. Plenty of chicken wings, coleslaw and potato salad. There is Wi Fi but not for me as this northern Wi., region has limited service from phone companies. There are other items on the menu I'd like to try such as the Milwaukee Brat. But that will be a future trip.

After conducting a funeral in Ironwood today, the family invited me to join them for a luncheon…read moreafter the service at Little Finland. I've driven past Little Finland often, but never realized exactly what it is. Today I learned that is a cultural center and gathering place established to celebrate and preserve the heritage of the thousands of Finnish immigrants who settled in the Penokee Iron Range on the south shore of Lake Superior beginning in the 1880s. They came to work in local iron mines and to establish small farms in a region similar to their Finnish homeland. The focal point of Little Finland is a 1970's era log building that houses a gathering room for meetings and parties on the upper level and gift shop on the lower level. A pavilion and picnic tables outside the main building provide a beautiful outdoor setting for summer gatherings -- like our gathering today. Though they were closed today, I was able to peek through the windows of a couple of hundred year old historical homes and a traditional Finnish sauna that have been located on the property. Each of the homes were decorated with period furniture and artifacts. Though it is a small organization, it preserves an important aspect of local history and I look forward to stopping in again to learn more and look around the inside all of the buildings.
