These are the worse lot of softball/baseball fields I have ever played on. So, I'll get the good…read morepoints out of the way. You can pretty much drop in whenever you want to play/practice if there's an open field. There are four fields. If you're on a league, they don't enforce the "no alcohol" rule at all, and coolers are quite abundant. The lines are always well painted, and the bases are usually left out in place. I won't discuss the league though, just the grounds. The lights (only used for games) are efficient enough to see at night. Imagine falling on what feels like nails and broken glass. No, those aren't part of the fields, but the granite they consist of is torturous. You will definitely think twice about (or severely regret later) sliding, diving, or even leaving your feet at any time in the infield. The outfield is just as bad. On all fields, the drainage is horrid, and the slightest rain will cause a quagmire in the deepest parts of the outfield. My teammate nearly disappeared into the swamp while trying to catch a fly ball. (Facebook updates say the drainage is being worked on.) The terrain is uneven, and the grass is not cut regularly. When it is cut, clumps of grass are left everywhere. The bench area and bleacher seating isn't big enough to support a team or any decent number of people in attendance. I've played in a number of other cities, and this complex continued to rank as the worst fields I have ever scarred myself on.

I attended yoga classes a few years ago at this rec center and it was hardly a rec center at all -…read morea barren weight room, an empty studio, and needed some major TLC. And that's exactly what it has gotten. I stopped in when I randomly stumbled across their website and thought I'd go in to see what they had done to it. They've remodeled basically the entire thing - brand new flooring downstairs, a new cardio room upstairs (4 treadmills, 5 ellipticals, 2 stairmasters, 4-5 stationary bikes, a spinning bike), a full weight room, a stretching room (different weights, medicine balls, steps, bands), new basketball court, and revamped locker rooms that have a sauna. Here's the #1 reason I signed up - it's reasonable and they have childcare. Gyms that include childcare are ridiculously expensive 99% of the time and honestly, it's been what has held me back from joining one. But, at the TRC, childcare is $10 a month on top of your $13 a month membership (if you're a Taylor resident) or $20 a month membership (if you're a non-resident). My son is 3 and loves going to the "gym." They have an enclosed and locked childcare area with a staff member supervising, so you can work out in peace one floor above them. The place is pretty spotless and almost every time I'm there, someone is cleaning something. There are always at least 3-4 people at the desk when you walk in every day and at least 2-3 more people walking around cleaning and checking on equipment. All of the staff is helpful, nice, and have been great to us. I go in the mornings most of the time and there are usually quite a few other people there, but it's not overcrowded and the vibe is absolutely non-competitive and comfortable (more so than any gym I've ever been to). The only downside is that the hours are a little weird with being closed in the middle of the afternoon M-F. They run from 6:30-12 and then open back up from 4:30-9pm.The track is also dated, but being replaced, and they just put up flat screens all around it so you can watch tv while you walk/run if that's your thing. They also haven't hired a personal trainer yet, but they're in the process.

I work out at the Taylor Rec Center 4 to 6 days a week. Their classes, including spinning, yoga,…read morestrength training, and Pilates, are excellent, and a very good value. The rec center is always clean, the employees are helpful, and in my experience, the equipment is kept in very good shape. The courts can be rented out for wallyball, And the saunas provide great relaxation after any kind of workout.
