Although criminal cases are typically handled by other members of this firm, I learned that circumstances were such that Mr. Fanning had to take a serious felony case to trial. Having heard that Fanning is a force of nature in court, I couldn't resist the opportunity to watch him in action slightly outside of his comfort zone. What I witnessed that week was nothing short of extraordinary. It was like something out of "To Kill a Mockingbird." Mr. Fanning owned that courtroom. With curious eyes and a commanding presence, he picked apart the prosecution's narrative. During cross examination examination, Mr. Fanning got a prosecution witness to admit that an unnamed suspect was present but had fled the scene, and that the police had never attempted to locate or even identify this person. Of course that admission sent an unscrupulous prosecutor (no longer employed there) flying out of her chair to spuriously object, but that didn't throw Mr. Fanning off of his line of inquiry. The family of the alleged victim appeared to be hiding something, either to protect themselves or someone else, and Fanning had them turning towards their own lawyers for advice during cross-- unusual behavior that did not go unnoticed by the judge. After that remarkable grilling, Mr. Fanning's delivered the most heartfelt and professional closing I'd ever seen. This is McLennan County, of course, where juries will rubber stamp a life sentence on scant evidence "just to be safe", but the outcome of that case took nothing away from my opinion of Mr. Fanning's talent. I later learned that his firm had been appointed by the judge to defend that client, meaning there was little to no financial incentive for him to work as hard as he did. That sort of character is rare, and gives me the highest confidence in the professionalism of his firm. Bottom life, if I'm ever accused of a crime, I'm calling Milam and Fanning!

Communication and preparation were poor, and I felt my concerns and evidence were ignored. After the case ended, I received documents with repeated errors and even a phishing email that appeared to come from the firm's address. When I asked about it, I was told they had been hacked, but I was never notified or informed about what information might have been compromised. If you're considering this firm, look elsewhere. Being represented by them was one of the worst experiences of my life, a costly mistake with a lasting impact.

I cannot believe I am the first to review them even though I have been going to them for a long time and they have been open with the same name and address. I have been going to Conlon Tax for over 13 years now. Even though I am located in Grand Prairie, Texas, I still trust this place. Mary has always made me feel completely comfortable that my taxes are being handled correctly and I am not in fear of the IRS coming down on me. She used to work for the IRS so I completely trust her. We tried a local company that my sister recommended in between our time with her and unfortunately my sister was flagged for audit and had to pay back almost every penny she got extra.. Almost $10,000. It was a very painful learning lesson. Where was the local company that did our taxes? Closed and no where to be found... so I decided Fed Ex'ing my taxes to Mary in their Waco or Temple office was worth the extra expense to know it is being done right. We were told that if we were ever audited they would help us and I trust that Conlon would be. They have been open for a long time and hopefully stay that way. One day we will travel down there to actually meet her and say thank you for the peace of mind she has given me and my family. But until then, she will continue to receive my taxes via Fed Ex.
