I had a great experience with Dover Marine, I was looking to upgrade my motor from a 60HP to a 75HP & put a talon on the back. I went to dover marine and was met by Frank, he was very pleasant and straight forward. Frank was not pushy, or overwhelming. They gave me an offer I could not pass up on my 60HP 4-stroke motor, so I went ahead and had them order a brand new 75 Mercury 4-stroke. They told me the motor and the new talon I was having them install would take around 3 weeks due to ordering the motor. This was not the case, they had it installed and completed in a week an half. Their mechanics did a great job installing everything, and they did everything exactly how I specified. I was very specific with what I wanted, and not once did they ever say no to me. I have gone in there many times over the years and no matter how busy they are they always are very helpful. You can imagine how hectic and busy it is during the Summer. I am still struggling with disbelief, the service was above anything I have ever received anywhere. The employees were both nice and knowledgeable. I needed a registration, fuel line and fuel tank, they helped me with every aspect and with a big smile. How Dover Marine lost generations of customers. We've always shopped at Dover Marine, back into the Western Auto days my grandfather, my uncles, my father and me. We've even bought and had our boat's serviced there. Heck I even have my wife get my 2 stroke oil their when she visits her mother even though many places closer sell it. Naturally when some scumbag stole the battery out of my boat, I went straight to Dover Marine to get a replacement. The kindly old man who I think has been there 40+ years greeted me and after some questions, picked out the battery he said I needed. I went to the register paid and left. lets stop here, Dover Marine is a throw back to the 50's, by that I mean they have no scan system, or even computer at the check out. It's a straight 40 year old style register that doesn't even list the name of the items you bought. I get home to find the greatest neighbor in the word standing in my driveway with ... you guessed it a battery. He heard what happened and had a spare almost new battery he wanted to give me. I was very excited thinking he just saved me $126.99. I drive back to Dover Marine today to deal with the worst employee ever! It started out with him saying I can only get store credit because battery's are dated and my warranty started when I bought it? I asked how, he then claimed it got " called it' when I ask how, again stating clearly NOBODY marked off the numbers of the battery or even touched it from the point I took it out of the rack, paid and left. His answer was " That's just how it works" what MAGIC?? When I asked how other companies such as Wal-mart, VIP or Auto-zone are able to return a battery he said " go there then" and refused to let me talk ... waving and loudly repeating "BYE BYE BYE" I had no choice but to take his store credit. When we pulled in a sales man (older gentleman) stood in the parking spot we were taking looked right at us but would not step aside so we could park, when we were finally able to park he folded his arms and watched us walk on with out greeting us. Just seems a bit of a odd way to greet a customer. Then we made out way to the parts counter. I will never visit their parts counter ever again. I went there to pick up a pretty standard part for an older motor. I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing the girl at the parts counter who basically told me anything she ordered would be a gamble and she probably had what I needed there; but because they have so many parts "literally millions" it wouldn't be worth her time to leave her chair and take a look. It's too bad i had this experience, from everything I have herd this used to be a wonderful family owned business. :-( read more

First of all if I could give this service department 0 stars I would. This place is an absolute joke. They have had my boat going on almost two months now. Originally I was told two to three weeks and they could look at it. I left them alone the entire time until about 3 weeks ago when I called for an update and was told they were "waiting on a part" and I asked at least for an estimate so I could provide it to my insurance company and was told they could make one up. 3 weeks go by and still no estimate or call back with any update. I called again and was told they would figure out what is wrong and give me a call back. Again, no call back. I called again today and was told they have been "periodically" working on my boat throughout the summer in between jobs. I asked for an ETA and the lady said nope don't have one we will call you when we get more into the project (that was never started) The boat was parked across the street and not touched since May and they just continue to feed me lie after lie after lie. When I went to tell them forget it and pick it up they said it was going to cost me $100 for diagnosing it. Seriously? You take two months and charge me $100 for doing nothing. I'm in customer service and was very understanding but I don't stand for being lied to just shoot me straight. This place will not treat your boat with respect, will not get the work done in a timely manner and will lie lie lie. I advise anyone who reads this to stay far away from this place. read more

Horrible customer service. My husband bought me a $30 sweatshirt here at the end of December. I loved it but ultimately decided it was a little too small and wanted to exchange it for a larger size. I brought it back in March to exchange (the owner wanted me to make sure everyone knew it was 3 months later). Although I do realize this is longer than many stores return policies I thought they may honor exchange since they still had the same sweatshirt on the floor for sale. I was told no by the man working counter. I started to leave but then thought that was ridiculous since the tags were still on it...so I asked to speak to manager. 2 older men explained that there was no way because they couldn't make any money on it since that inventory had already been closed out And it was off season. (Umm this is NH pretty sure a sweatshirt is all seasons here) I explained that I just wanted to exchange it and would be spending more money there on life jackets etc. way more than this $30 sweatshirt. and that I would be happy to take my business elsewhere in the future. They said go ahead. i said awesome I will be happy to do that and will be posting a review to let people know of my experience here and got in my car to leave. The owner followed me out to car all upset because I had "threatened" him by saying I was going to post review. only then did he ask to see the sweatshirt. He then tried to claim that if I had emailed him first to tell him why it took me 3 months to return he might have honored request? that makes zero sense to me. I was there in person and would have been more than happy to explain. He had no problem losing my business but was definitely concerned about bad review. I like to shop small local businesses but will now be shopping are kittery trading post or west marine for similar products and better customer service. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My experience with them happened in June, and I was so upset it almost ruined my whole summer. Tracker was having a low interest rate financing special so I decided to look into a bass boat. I dealt with Frank, the owner. I was told that the boat I liked on the showroom floor was the last one, no more 2013's would be coming in so if I liked it I would have to make a decision quick. I ended up putting a deposit down and was advised I would hear from them within 24 hours about the financing. (Its Tracker financing, who farms it out to no-name banks). After 48 hours passed with no contact I followed up with Frank. They informed me that I didn't qualify for the lowest interest rate. I have my credit monitored and can call up my score at will. The number Tracker was pulling for me was 70 points lower then my actual score. I was insistent that the score was wrong and that I wasn't interested in purchasing the boat for a higher interest rate then I qualify for. They said they'd continue working with Tracker on it. Throughout the process Frank denied knowing anything about how the financing worked and blamed everything on Tracker. As a few more days passed without word I began to get frustrated. I contacted Frank and told him if I didn't get a straight answer soon I was calling off the whole thing. Finally on Saturday (4 days in) I received a message from Frank that I had been approved for the 2.99% financing and I should come in to finalize things. When I went in, I found out the financing paperwork wasn't there, that he was in contact with Tracker who would call me directly. Frank said he was surprised they hadn't already called me, so it would be any time. Two more days pass with no word from ANYONE. I called Frank on the Monday who again acted surprised that I hadn't heard anything, and now informed me the rate wasn't 2.99%, it was 4.5%.....WHAT? I now realized I was being "handled" by this guy and couldn't trust anything he was saying. I called off the sale. Well, the truth of everything came out the next day, Tuesday, now almost a week from when I started. Tracker called me directly, completely unaware of anything that had transpired the last week, offering me 5.75%!! I about lost it. When I asked about the 2.99% and the 4.5% I was offered, he didn't know what I was talking about. So it turns out Frank was feeding me false rates so I wouldn't drop the sale. Did he think I wouldn't look at the paperwork before I signed it? Tracker ended up stepping up, apologizing for FRANK and reducing the interest rate. They also informed me the boat I wanted had already been sold, but more were coming in (remember that FRANK told me it was the last one). The finance guy also told me the reason my credit score was so different is that they use an "enhanced" score...lenders can choose to pull only parts of your credit, skewing the actual number. If I had been given the low rate initially I might have agreed, but by this point I didn't want to have any dealings with Dover Marine and Frank ever again. If I buy a Tracker I will either pay in cash, get my own financing or work directly with Tracker...no dealer involved. You know when the OWNER of a business is unethical, the whole place is tainted. Was told it would take 1 week to service my engine. It's been 3 weeks and still nothing. When I call to check up and ask for an update, I get a very rude "Well if it was done we would have called you!" Then they put you on hold for 10 min and say "No one has looked at it yet, but they have it on the schedule for today". I've gotten that response for the past 2 weeks now. I brought it in early to try to have it ready for the short boating season here. But it looks like this is going to drag on and on. I brought it here because they are an Evinrude dealer...but I wouldn't bring it here again. It's too bad. I had used Dover Marine before, years ago. They were a good shop and I liked the store (though a bit overpriced). But I won't be using them again. read more

I had my boat winterized here this fall. They also installed a float switch on my bilge pump so it would come on automatically. The price was fair and it was completed in a timely manner. The people that work there are friendly and I would recommend using them. read more

I have dealt with Dover marine for many years. The most I do now is by parts there. I do not take my boat for service there anymore. It takes them months just to look at your boat, summer only last four months. There work is sub par and questionable. read more

My relatives highly recommended this Boat shop and I have now been a regular customer for the past 3 years. They keep a very good selection of parts inventory and are very helpful in demonstrating the differences in parts to select from. In the service department I have had them service a used boat I bought last year that the previous owner was unable to get fixed correctly at other boat shops. dover found multiple issues and resolved quickly and it has since been a year since then and so far no worries. Boat runs great with no issues. This year I decided to swap motors on another one of my boats with a motor that had been unused for 5 + years and decided to have Dover get it ready for use after sitting so long. quickly they tuned it with new fluids etc and then shorlty afterwards I put it on the boat and they are currently going to load test iti on the water to achieve maximum performance from the motor on the boat. Pretty incredible service is my thoughts on them trying to satisfy my boating needs. I would highly recommend them for service, parts or as a resource to discuss boating topics of need. read more
