The first thing that's noticeable is "Mom & Pop" atmosphere, but not in appearance. No its in the greeting, the welcome, the smile, the helpfulness, the patience, etc.etc.etc! The thing we appreciate about shopping Yorktowne is they allow you to explore without rushing you OR without feeling as though you're being pounced on before you're barely in the door. The point is, they have it all. Not only when it comes to Customer Service but also their furniture. They have many different styles and different levels of quality and price ranges. We love that the store is still family oriented upholding the kindness of original store atmosphere which has been in the community for many many years. I was fortunate to connect immediately over the phone with Interior Designer Laurie Foster, who not only answered my initial questions (delivery to my far-away town? Yes. Do they carry Bassett furniture? Yes.) but also asked me for some detail about what I was looking for. This was on a Friday afternoon, and thanks to a quick email exchange after our phone call, Laurie had prepared to meet me by the time I had arrived at the store the next morning. She has made print-outs of the rug in my living room that I wanted to be in conversation with our new sofa and chairs. She helped by showing me potential fabrics, leathers, sizes, and placement of furniture, and much more. Laurie is a terrific listener, with an artist's eye and mind. After a long hiatus, I returned to the store on Thursday with my husband and had quite a different experience with a different employee. Charles was the first person to speak with us when we walked through the door. He was patient. He listened to our issue we were having ,and walked us through how to resolve it! This is the service people want to receive when they are going into their neighborhood hardware stores. He didn't rush and was engaging. They then scan the peg hook and the item . They are both the same . But ring up as 27.99. They did reluctantly honor the advertised price on the shelf . I did not buy the other items as I will not indulge this rude owner . No apology for their rudeness. I wasn't trying to get over on them . I just wanted the price they had on the shelf . This is called bait and switch . Customer service is not their forte . Peg hook bar codes and the actual product bar codes do not always match as UPC's change via vendor and planogram dates . They should may be do a price audit rather than belittling a customer To then in the end, looking less than educated about their own business. . At no point did they offer to get the price tag or do any verification I had to go back . And then be hassled by the inept owner . I will not go back .
