What's La douzette? Only just the best part of Parisian spring/ summer! Nothing but love for this place. It's a pop-up bar/ beer garden.
For the 2015 season, they set up camp on the banks of the seine, by bercy. Old hand-me-down furniture and wooden boards made up the tables and seating. Yea, ur butt hurt sitting on the wood and sometimes you got splinters on your butt lol, but it was all worth it. Old-school 90s posters and 80s advertisements were plastered everywhere. Games were available for rent for free upon presentation of ID, everything from pétanque to dominoes and cards.
To drink? Piscines de vin (huge huge generous portions of wine) for cheap, or cold pints of beer at affordable prices during happy hour. Reusable cups which are consigned at a euro each (refundable if you return them At the end.) Eco-friendly? Cool!
Friendly staff, non-pretentious chill crowd. Come here with your friends on weekends to laze in the sun, or for an afterwork drink.
Beautiful views of the seine, and you can obv picnic if you want. Or, better yet, take advantage of the absolutely delicious food offerings du jour. anything from gourmet sandwiches to fried chicken or beignets - the menu varies day to day and never disappoints! Not too pricy either!
I said this is a pop-up bar, so what about the toilets? Well, they have wooden potty stools built up (about 4 for each gender), which are very Eco-friendly and without water. There is a huge trash bag under the whole, and instead of flushing, you freshen up with a large cup of wood shavings. I had never seen this before and honestly felt kind of like a hamster with the wood shavings, but it's absolutely brilliant, hygienic, doesn't smell, and much cleaner than your average public toilet!
As its the middle of February while I'm writing this review, la douzette is not currently opened. It's an association btw that organizes the whole thing - an association of young people from the 12th arrondissement. I am patiently waiting for the 2016 edition!! Come back la douzette - we miss you! I heard birds chirping this morning - les beaux jours arrivent! (And hopefully la douzette 2016 session!)
