Let me just start off by saying that i wouldn't have been able to do it without keelia by my side during my labor. At my first home birth, i didnt think I needed a doula because both my husband and i thought he could do it. After all, we trained for it at our birthing class, right? Turns out we were wrong - as much as i love my husband, we both felt like i needed a maternal person by my side this second time around who knew how to massage, encourage, and support me. Keelia really has the gift of nurturing and i felt like she was always genuine when encouraging me with her words when had moments of doubt or fear during labor, especially during the transition period. I honestly felt like my labor would have been longer as well if keelia wasn't there to suggest certain positions that would speed up the labor. She was basically my advocate and was the only person who was able to care about my physical needs and comfort (my wonderful midwife was busy making sure baby and I were well and healthy and husband was dealing with logistics). Before the labor we had two meetings and practiced positions as well as discussing what type of support I'd like her to be so when labor comes around, she'd know exactly how to help me and avoided things that would stress me out like talking over me (the last doula i interviewed had that tendency). Here are a couple of highlights from my labor on how keelia was able to make a huge difference : 1. She suggested laboring in the shower and that ended up being a good amount of my labor. She also warmed up my towel for me in the dryer! 2. Keelia was really able to encourage me when my water broke and the labor started hurting a lot more because it was transition period. 3. She was able to calm me and tell me I can do it when we realized we didn't have a hose for the birthing tub, and our bathtub will still work fine! I could have easily panicked because other people were and a water birth was really a crucial part of our birthing plan. 4. This is silly but i appreciated her feeding me my sushi while i was lying down getting stitched up and holding my newborn. 5.Also, almost forgot to mention those massages during each contraction really helped minimize the pain! Some people's massages hurt (ex:my husband :), or even a midwives). Not everyone has that gift but i remember reading that keelia has a certification in massage. Keelia also does placenta encapsulations if you are interested. Keelia in person is a real sweet person and you can tell she genuinely loves helping mothers in this way. I think it's because she has a big heart. i remember her saying that if she could take some contractions for me, she would and i believe she would :). She is also able to be diplomatic, works well with different personalities, and has an amazing ability to stay calm no matter the circumstances. I definitely recommend Keelia as your doula because she will have your best interest at heart.

I would 1000% recommend doing one-on-one training sessions--it's the best money I've ever spent on myself. Thanks to our workouts, I had an incredibly easy delivery and post-partum recovery. Tal radiates positive energy! She kept me smiling, fit, motivated, and--most importantly--SAFE throughout my pregnancy. Her workouts were not only fun but also incorporate many moves that can actually be used during labor. She was always in-tune to my needs and would adapt her routines--even mid-workout--to make sure I was safe and pain-free. I also loved that she emphasized important foundations (e.g. proper breathing technique, connecting breath to core and pelvic floor, safe ways to get in/out of bed, ways to avoid diastasis recti, etc). I continue to use those skills daily. Not only is Tal a mama herself, she has years of experience as a specialized prenatal/post-partum personal trainer. She even stays up-to-date with ACOG recommendations and takes refresher maternal health courses. As a physician, I was impressed with the depth of her knowledge. If you train with her, you get access to her Strong Mama Fitness online for free--another incredible resource. Although she is no longer local in the Bay Area, she is available for 1-on-1 virtual training via Zoom. Our virtual sessions were super convenient, all without sacrificing quality. I can't recommend Tal enough!

While my HMO initially advised me to wait out the pain, offered opiate painkillers I was not comfortable taking, and recommended exercises I could not perform, Dr. A traveled to my home for my initial session and actually looked at my back and body. Her first adjustment enabled me to walk taller and longer than I had since my initial injury. When I had a setback and my progress stalled, Dr. A correctly identified that I had a ruptured disc and helped arm me with information needed to advocate for more invasive medical intervention that was also pregnancy safe. In addition to adjustments, she took time to connect me with a stabilizing belt, exercises, and ways of moving that helped me function enough to do things like watch my 4-year-old, take showers, prepare quick meals, and slowly but surely build strength and endurance. Through it all, Dr. A demonstrated again and again her incredible gift for trauma-informed body work. At a time when I didn't trust anyone to touch my body--myself included--I knew I was in good hands with Dr. A. She is gentle and confident, sincere and compassionate, and she possesses an innate ability to listen well and connect deeply. From our first meeting, I felt safe with Dr. A. This safety and trust helped me not only move again but also rebuild my own trust in my body and in myself. I returned to Dr. A after giving birth as I dealt with recovery for both c-section surgery and my ruptured disc. She laid the groundwork for physical and mental recovery, giving me the confidence to move forward--body and mind--in a healthier way for myself and my kids. Today, I am back to work, able to hike, hold my kids, and once again feel strong in my body. Thank you, Dr. A for helping me return to my life and body in a deeper, richer way.

Her experience, attentiveness, and proactiveness in taking care of not only everything for the baby but also our home made such a big difference during this crazy time for us. Zhang A Yi is incredibly knowledgeable about newborn care and immediately stepped in to help the moment she arrived, handling everything from feeding and bathing, to soothing him and putting him to bed. Given we're first time parents, she was also very helpful in decoding our son's crying/fussiness for us and provided great tips for taking care of him. In those first few weeks when we were still adjusting, she would oftentimes even cut her afternoon break short to help out, despite us insisting that she rest. It was honestly surprising to us just how quickly we became comfortable with Zhang A Yi and entrusted her with our son's care. She really treated our baby as if he were her own and it was very reassuring to see just how much she genuinely cared about him (and how much he enjoyed being with her as well). There was no shortage of smiles and cooing when Zhang A Yi was practicing tummy time with him or entertaining him with all his toys. In addition to Zhang A Yi being very attentive to our baby, she was also incredibly observant when it came to the day-to-day. She'd proactively clean any dishes that we left out, and on the occasions that we'd take our baby out with us to meet up with friends, we'd come back to a very clean and organized home (even though Zhang A Yi was not at all required to help with this). And as the cherry on top to all this - she's also a fantastic cook. You'd think that over the course of 3 months we'd have gotten through her entire repertoire of dishes, but she continued to surprise us with something new. Mealtime was definitely something we looked forward to every day. We've really enjoyed having Zhang A Yi as part of the family and would highly recommend her to anyone who's looking for a dedicated and warm-hearted nanny to help with taking care of their newborn.

Leonora was so great from the start and she was eager to start doula services with me. From the moment we began our sessions she provided me with a loving and calm space for me to prepare my body for childbirth and postpartum, she has such a beautiful and calming energy you can't help but just feel grounded and at peace with her around. Not once did I feel like I was being treated differently because of my situation. She offered me many resources and teaching guides on pregnancy to learn about my bodily functions and how pregnancy all works, which ultimately left me very prepared for what was to come. She helped me form the perfect birth plan for me that included all of my wants for my hospital birth. The actual birth was so amazing, I was blessed to have a room full of women including Leonora supporting me through it and it was an experience I'll never forget. I can't begin to thank Leonora enough for providing me such loving and supportive care.
