I had my LASIK procedure performed here two weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier with the result…read moreand overall process! I'd put off getting LASIK for a couple of years, and the folks at San Diego LASIK Institute made it so much smoother and easier than I'd ever anticipated, from reception to planning to checkups to the procedure itself. From my initial consultation, Brandy the coordinator did a great job of answering my questions on everything from expected outcomes to payment options. My many followup emails were answered quickly and comprehensively as well. When it came time for my pre-op checkup, Dr. Darrow was a delight to work with. She brought a relaxed, humorous vibe to the tests that truly put me at ease, and she was actively happy to explain so much about how my eyes were going to work, what I should expect, and all sorts of other niche questions I had. When it comes to my eyes, I didn't want to walk into anything half-prepared, and she seriously sated my curiosity. On the procedure day, the Dr. Pham had a great intro video laying out some of the basic care instructions. Soon after, he came in to discuss what I should be ready for, and he did something great: he checked what I do for work, and then expressed the effect of the procedure to me in terms that made sense for my career! This helped things click for me right away and got me ready. Then the procedure itself was over with incredible speed. We started off with some prep, which involved numbing my eyes with drops and applying some pressure to them, which took about 10 minutes overall. Then, the actual laser procedure was 34 seconds per eye (this apparently varies by prescription, lower prescriptions taking less time). I Ubered home from the procedure, took the sleep aids they gave me, woke up 17 hours later, and went back for my post-op. My eyes felt great already and had 20/20 vision! Today, I went back for a followup appointment and had 20/15 vision. In the interim, my eyes had a week or so of ongoing dryness, but that's mostly subsided by now (and was very much one of the warnings I'd received). The dryness and my night vision will continue improving over the coming 6 months, but I already feel like I've gotten worlds better. I can't recommend San Diego LASIK Institute highly enough!

If you need to find a high quality, trusting place to get LASIK, go here!…read more My prescription is on the high end, but I woke up seeing so clear the morning after my procedure. It's not perfect 20/20, however that is expected. A week out now, my vision feels so clear. At night , I do notice halos and starbursts (which is expected) however, a week out, I feel comfortable driving at night. I agree that the first few nights will be tricky driving at night. I mainly see Dr. Darrow for my follow ups and only saw Dr. Pham for my surgery. The whole staff is amazing and sweet. The day of surgery, I took many scans of my eyes. Dr. Pham likes to be precise and accurate. I watched Netflix for about an hour and a half, went to get the LASIK which only took 30 minutes, and then went home! They even gave me a stuffed animal to hold :) As intimidating as LASIK can be, this place made me feel so safe and my healing journey has been nothing but perfect!

I saw him once and he was wonderful, but I wasn't ready for cataract surgery right then. I went back a year or so later and was told he was on some sort of medical leave. Another year or two later I went in again, and I was told he is not returning. I am NOT impressed with the surgeon they have now, but that's another review. I think it is deceptive and dishonest that they continue to use his name and his reputation. How can they do that?

SCAM ALERT I came…read morehere because I needed glasses and the Cigna website said it was he closest place to my house that was covered. Horrible parking setup. I had to walk for days at 9 AM. The Optometrist lady that evaluated my eyes was nice but the guy that shows you frames wasn't helpful and had a very small selection of frames and only one option that fit my fat head. I asked him a couple times about pricing and he kept saying my insurance would cover it. Got to check out expecting a $15 bill for my copay and boom it's $128. Turns out the frames I got are expensive. Low and behold, my insurance didn't cover $270 worth of frames... Whatever I just need glasses. So I pay up. Then the bills start arriving... OPHTH MEDICAL KM&EVAL COMPRE NEW PT 1/ VST... $215 DETERMINATION REFRACTIVe STATE................................$89.00 I have no idea what any of that means. SO I called and said "Hey I have insurance. I already paid for the frames. Please don't mess with my credit over this." After the first call I got a new bill with an $89 deduction, but saying I still owe $194.54. I let it slide for a month ro so to see if they figured it out with the insurance. They didn't. SO I called again and this time they said they billed my health care not my viison plan. OK... Well I provided the only info I have from Cigna and I definitely have vision coverage. Not sure why this is so complicated. A couple days later I get a credit alert. The office reported me for greater than 30 days late payment. Great. Thanks for that. 2 weeks pass and now I have a new copy of the same bogus bill. They are now threatening to pass the debt to collectors unless I cough up $194. Today's bill says: "FINAL NOTICE: If we do not hear from you within 10 days this account will be turned over to a collection agency.." Nice. Guess I'm now their hostage and have to pay up or my credit gets screwed. I have gotten glasses 3x before at two other places and never had a problem. The situation is ongoing. I never met this Dr Leung dude. At this point this practice is running some kind of billing scam, trying to trick people into paying more than they are supposed too. Seem to be the standard MO for health care providers nowadays. Pretty sad. I don't know why the yelp reviews are so positive but I'm not going to spend the time reading them. I've seen doctors game yelp before so I'm just going to assume this is more of the same.

All 3 times, the staff were amazing and helpful. Everything was explained to me in detail and they made sure I was comfortable. I had very bad vision but was at ease with the surgery considering how the folks are at Gordon Schanzlin. The surgery itself was probably only 5 mins, but a lot was done to make sure I was calm and ready for it. When I was a bit nervous during surgery, they helped distract me momentarily so we could continue seamlessly. I was given clear instructions for aftercare and i had zero complications. I even drove myself to my follow up like they said id be able to! When I needed receipts to help with FSA / insurance reimbursements, I called in and was assisted upfront. I never had any issues with the office side of things either! 3 months later, i still have 20/20 vision and 0 issues. I'm very happy with my treatment and would highly recommend Dr Echegoyen and the Gordon Schanzlin Institute.

Yelpers, please be warned, his "scheduling conflict" has taken me six long months. And it will happen to you 100%. This phrase is an in-office catch-all that the scheduling desk used with great regularity. Personally, I got soooo tired of hearing that particular phrase.... LOL. I don't know, I guess what it all comes down to, my friends, is our time; they don't seem to respect it. In all fairness, they did give me a 24-hour notice; however, six months, I think, seems a bit too long and inconvenient too. Honestly, Yelpers, there are so many other choices for us here in beautiful San Diego, why subject ourselves to this? Total disregard for the patient's state of mind. Which, to me, is extremely unprofessional. Shop around, look around. Make two appointments with two doctors; this way, you'll always have a backup. Better to play it safe with this clown.

However, I'm extremely disappointed with how my medications were handled. I was initially given expired eye drops before surgery, which I reported. After surgery, I developed an eye infection, and when I was given a new bottle on 03/30/2026, it was set to expire on 04/04/2026--just days later. Day of the Surgery: The actual procedure was done in a very short period of time. I felt pressure on my eye socket, but nothing else. You just stare at some lights and each eye is done in a matter of 20-30 seconds. Once you're done, they give you protective goggles and send you off with whoever is driving you. You get meds to help you sleep and relax your eyes for the rest of the day. When I woke up from this, I could already see much better. Next Day: I woke up and was astonished at how good my vision was. I have books across the room from my bed and I could read all the titles from where I was laying. Pre-surgery I couldn't even tell there was writing where the titles were. I had my check up at NVision, which I drove myself to and the rest of the day was great. Day 3: This day, my eyes hurt like hell. I took drops a lot and tried to keep my eyes closed a lot. The rest of the week, the pain decreased and went away and my vision continued to improve. I was never more excited when I didn't have to wear the goggles to bed anymore haha Over the next several weeks and months, my eyesight was much crisper than it had ever been when I wore contacts. Colors were more vibrant and I could read street signs much farther away. My eyes needed drops at the beginning and end of days as they were frequently dry and to this day I still have minor halos around lights at night, but damn this eyesight is a dream. If you are eligible for Contura, I would definitely spend the extra money and do it. It made a big difference for me.

Life-Changing LAL Lens Replacement at Clearview Eye and Laser…read more I can't say enough good things about my experience at Clearview Eye and Laser Medical Center. I had the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) replacement surgery, and it has genuinely been life-changing. For the first time in years, I can see clearly without relying on glasses or contacts, and the difference in my day-to-day life has been incredible. I had the procedure done just before a trip to Iceland, and I'm so glad I did. Being able to take in the glaciers, waterfalls, and fjords with crystal-clear natural vision -- no glasses fogging up in the cold, no contacts drying out -- made the whole experience even more stunning. I noticed details in the landscape I know I would have missed otherwise. Dr. Sandy Feldman is exceptional -- knowledgeable, precise, and clearly at the top of her field. She walked me through every step of the process, answered all my questions, and made sure I felt confident going into surgery. Dr. Michael Mathison and the rest of the clinical team were just as attentive, professional, and reassuring throughout my recovery and follow-up adjustments (the LAL process requires a few in-office light treatments to fine-tune the prescription, and every visit was smooth and well-organized). What really stood out was how the entire staff -- from the front desk to the surgical team -- made me feel like a priority rather than just another patient. Everything was explained clearly, appointments ran on time, and I always left feeling well cared for. If you're considering LAL, cataract surgery, LASIK, or any vision correction procedure, I can't recommend Dr. Feldman and the Clearview team enough. This has been one of the best decisions I've made for my quality of life -- and I got to see Iceland in perfect focus because of it.
