We tried out the Dough Bar for the first time. We ordered the large NY style Ricotta & Spinach, then we got the Hawaiian personal sized wood fire pizza. Both were okay. I personally prefer my Hawaiian pizza to be barbecue based, and the ricotta pizza had very little spinach. We were hoping for more spinach. I think the wood fire base/crust was good, but I would recommend different toppings for the personal size to mix well with the wood fire taste. Service was pretty good, and thankfully we were able to get seated right away. The outside area looked nice. I did wish they were playing some music inside! we have been going here at least monthly since it opened. it has had several owners and each time we worry that they will change the pizza. Fortunately, every iteration has maintained the quality. For reference my wife and I have always been pizza fanatics. we were partners in several pizza restaurants many years ago. We know what goes into a quality pizza. Crust, sauce and ingredients are obviously paramount. The Dough Bar does it right. we have tried every pizza in the area and while there are a few decent ones in the mix, we always go back here and have yet to be disappointed. The personal wood fired pizza is done in a hight heat pizza oven. in my experience it is difficult to get the char on a crust like you do in an 800° oven. Another advantage is the pizza come out baked and quickly, but the cheese isn't so hot it takes the skin off your palate. The sauce is the right balance of sweetness and spice and the sausage is without question the best I have ever had on a pizza. we found out that the sausage side order pictured is slightly different, very good but not quite as delectable as the one one the pie. The pizza is so good we have never tried the other entrees. We can't seem to pass up the pizza. Living in Florida we often have visitors. When they return for a followup visit, they always request we stop by "that pizza place." This is as close to an Italian style pizza as you will get in Florida. we haven't tried the large pizza because it is done in a conventional oven. read more

There were only two couples in the restaurant, including us, yet the service was very slow. It seemed like the employees were more focused on talking among themselves than on taking care of the guests. We started with the garlic bread, which was not appealing in presentation and lacked flavor. From there, we waited far too long for our entrees - rigatoni Bolognese and a pizza - both of which were disappointing. The pasta fagioli ordered tasted horrible, as if it had been sitting all day. It was overcooked, old-tasting, and far from fresh. The pizza also lacked any real flavor or quality. We had considered dessert, but given the delays with everything else, we decided against it. On another note, the cleanliness also needs attention. The restroom lacked basic supplies and was not well maintained, which reflects poorly on the overall experience. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The pizza was terrible and dry. Additionally, one of their outdoor tables broke when our server tried to move it and we were angrily interrogated by the manager for 10 minutes on how the table broke when it had clearly been broken prior and was being supported by plywood. I don't leave reviews often, but Dough Bar deserves one. It's our go-to spot when we're in the mood for pizza. On our first visit, there was a big party on the patio, but my partner and I were treated like the only table in the place. Service was smooth, well-paced, and the pizza was fresh and full of flavor. Our most recent visit sealed the deal again. We sat at the bar and had excellent service from Ang and Reina, with Ari greeting us at the door. Everyone we've encountered here, including the young male host, the chefs, have been kind, helpful, and clearly part of a team that supports each other. That kind of environment shows. The parmesan fries were perfect, and the pizza was just as good as we remembered. The food is always consistent, and the cooks deserve just as much credit as the front of house. The Hawaiian is my personal favorite. Pineapple on pizza might not be for everyone, but in Punta Gorda, once a pineapple capital, it fits! Dough Bar delivers every time. Great Food. Great Service. The Proscuitto and Arugula pizza tasted like it was a cheese pizza that they left out all day and then decided to throw the prosciutto and arugula on top of for my delivery. 0/5 for a $21 pizza... Background; I'm from Long Island, NY and grew up with Italians and Sicilians. My buddy Joe's (RIP) family own a pizzeria (Satelite Pizzeria in Bayport, NY). My standard and criteria for pasta sauce is very high and I am very picky with Italian food. I do not leave reviews often unless it's mind blowing food. The Penne Ala Vodka sauce was hands down the best sauce I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. I cannot believe how flavorful it is. If you enjoy Penne Ala Vodka, do not hesitate to order a dish of it. I hope they have it for sale in a jar at the restaurant. I'll be buying a few to mail to friends to enjoy. Limoncello martini was a delightful treat after a long day, ladies! The mousse 'pudding' chocolate bomb dessert was top-notch! So glad I brought it home to enjoy all over again. Yum!!! There were no other patrons in the restaurant, after they sat us I think they forgot and it took them awhile to come get our order. That was fine we were just excited to try a new restaurant . I thought, like with most Italian restaurants we would get bread and oil or bread and butter especially being that the name "dough" is in the name.but that wasn't the case. We received our 2 very underwhelming house salads and then our pasta. My rigatoni was very over cooked and smoothed and the noodles were mostly broken up, it was very very salty. My daughter ordered fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli and the broccoli came 5 minutes after her pasta came out.....it was an unfortunate experience and we won't be back. The second and third shrimps I ate was over cooked, but the last shrimp I ate was fishy. I really don't know how it varies so much in a single dish. After arriving to pickup, I waited at the front desk for 5-7 minutes until someone noticed me, then waited an additional 40 minutes to get my pizza. It seemed like they were short staffed but I would've been more understanding if I had been given a longer estimated wait, then arriving after 25 minutes and waiting an additional 40 minutes.
