Lost wages, physical therapy expenses, copays, prescriptions, and car rental expenses were not reimbursed. Meanwhile, I am still being treated for my injuries. I gave two stars because service was friendly AT FIRST and the chiropractor they referred me to is great. What we got was that neither Cayce nor an attorney had read anything I had provided previously. It was literally, "So tell me about your situation." Huh? A consultation is defined as a conference at which advice is given or views are exchanged; a meeting to discuss the treatment of a case. How can that be achieved when one party hasn't even read about the case at hand? For a law firm to be inaccurate with it's language is enormous cause for concern. Additionally, Cayce was late to the 9:00am appointment. My father opened the office door for her yet when she came into the meeting room, she lied about her delay saying she was conferring with an attorney. I guess it's true, you get what you pay for. We met and agreed for her to send a letter to my employer regarding a verbal and physical threat made to me by my supervisor. A draft of the letter was emailed to me and I pointed out several mistakes and typos. No copy of the final letter was presented to me until the HR investigation (and never from Ms. Lewis - all I ever got from her was the rough draft). The final copy that was mailed to my HR office had a major problem, transposing our two names so it sounded as though I made the threat to my supervisor instead of the other way around. Could there be any worse error or typo than that??!! She stated in the letter that the company should communicate and negotiate through her, but she did no follow up and when I contacted her for an update and wondering what our next step would be she stated her work was done. I requested a refund of the retainer not used, to which she responded she used the whole retainer and there would be no refund. She charged me $1000 for an inaccurate and unprofessional letter which probably contributed to a poor response to my claim. $1000 for pretty much nothing, or maybe worse than nothing! I met with attorney Jeff Norris of Standley Law Group in September of 2022 to obtain help in…read moresecuring a TM and patent for my company and our product(s). I provided comprehensive background work, including nearly-completed trademark application forms, TM research information, and drawings for a simple design patent. I sought help specifically defining the "Date of First Use" and filing the application for the trademark, and then drafting the patent. I had received quotes totaling $4,350 for both tasks from other firms operating on a flat-rate. Standley LLP, however, works on hourly rates. I welcomed this, as I had already done most of the work and did not want to pay for already completed actions. I was quoted $2,250 for the retainer, with charges billed on a per-hour basis and extra hours billed if denials/refusals arose from the USPTO and for draftsperson fees if the provided drawings were unacceptable. I was ultimately billed $10,793.50, including $5,950 in the first month. The retainer was depleted in the first eighteen days, which seemed excessive given the prior consultation's scope. For example, I was charged $3,740 for TM and class research, although I had already completed that on my own and only requested the previously mentioned assistance. Mr. Norris acted as a go-between with the draftsperson and myself, resulting in email charges totaling $3,910 even though the draftsperson only billed $400 for his work/drawings. Due to credits I received for disputing overcharges, I ended up paying $9,793.50 but feel I was grossly overcharged given the unnecessary work performed and the details of the initial consultation. Mr. Standley refused to admit to overcharging (despite offering a $1,000 refund if I agreed to an NDA) and blocked further communication. Learn from my mistake and avoid this firm at all costs!
