This city is…read morea perfect place to go rummaging for a bargain in a charity shop, as the generous (and most likely wealthy) ladies and gents often donate their barely worn designer names to goodwill. Tucked away down Green Street, it often goes unnoticed by the general throng of shoppers but make sure you pay it a visit. The volunteers are friendly and helpful, and always up for a chinwag. Not only is there a great range of clothes and accessories on sale here, but also a good selection of books and music too. Don't forget - whatever you buy here will go to a superb cause. Their window displays are always well thought out and attractive. My favourite time of year to walk past BHF is Valentine's Day, when people have paid to put their declarations of love in the window. Aww. Nice.

An excellent little charity shop for books, music and clothes. I usually manage to pick up a few…read moredecent jumpers and t-shirts here, and all for less than £3 or thereabouts. Bargain. The only thing really lacking for men is the trousers, which unless you're into corduroy slacks or old-man jeans, ain't really going to cut the mustards amongst your fashion conscious mates. Actually, I found a wicked woolly hat here once, so that's another thing that you can occasionally pick up here. Like all charity shops, it's just worth popping in every couple of weeks to pick up something cool.

This is a fairly large store that actually has a couple of decent items of men's clothing (near…read moreenough impossible to find in today's charity shops) about once a month, so I usually visit here once in a while to check out if they've had anything in from some fashion conscious yet warmhearted soul. The range of books is worth a quick browse, too, as they occasionally have something in that isn't the mindless drivel of our beloved celebrities. Of course, this place has the obligatory doddering old dear behind the counter, who smiles a toothless grin and hand your receipt and change over with a violently shaking hand, making you feel all good inside about your great deeds.

The windows of this shop is literally filled with flyers, wanted ads and offers ranging from club listings to 'one broken bike needs loving owner'. The streets outside the shop are normally busier inside with onlookers trying to find the best thing in town. My favourite discovery I found in this window was a dress making course at a local community centre. As for the shop itself, it is quite a traditional charity shop - a real mish-mash of clothes, bric-a-brac and LPs. Probably not the best place to find a gem, but it only seems fair to pop in after gawping at it's window for half an hour.

Even though it might not be quite as good as Bristol's Park Street there are two shops you should really take a look at; Jack & Danny's and The Yellow Shop. The Yellow Shop is as fun, bright and interesting as its name suggests. For a vintage shop it's well organised into tidy rows which are easy to navigate. The stock doesn't change very often, so I tend to make a visit every couple of months or so. But if you love, eighties t-shirts, seventies shoes and sixties dresses this is the place for you. The prices range dramatically here so if you dig deep enough you should be able to find a bargain or two. They also welcome donations, so if you're having a clear out - be sure to pop along.

You'll find stuff ranging from the 60's to present day - some of it's not technically vintage, but it's got the same kind of vibe. The more obviously trendy (and expensive) stuff is located as you walk in at the front of the shop, but if you're on the look out for a bargain then head down to the basement level, where there are tonnes of items on rails and in boxes that you can spend a good half hour, or so, rifling through. If you're into vintage fashion then you should definitely check this place out.

This may sound a bit cheap of me, but I'll guarantee one walk around Oxfam on George Street and you'll feel the same well. Well organised, with fantastic donations, Oxfam is one of my favourite charity shops in Bath. I once bought a Reiss shirt for £8 - lovely! Their bric-a-brac and music selection is equally as good here. Not only a great cause, but a perfect place to bag a bargain.

The shop is so jammed packed with dressed, jackets, shoes and bags that their rails literally explode onto the street outside. This is literally floor to ceiling vintage heaven. You need strong arms and a whole lot of patience to push back the clothes and discover a gem, but if you take the time you'll hopefully find something you love. The ladies who work at Jack & Danny's are perfectly pleasant, but they're there to pick out the best fashion available, not to make idle chit chat (so if friendly service is what you're after - you're better off at The Yellow Shop). The prices aren't cheap, but the clothes are quality with a leather jacket setting you back around £45.

The Yellow Shop is quite clean and modern looking, housing trendy garments for youthful hipsters, both vintage and otherwise. Jack & Danny's on the other hand, is quite an Aladin's cave, with vintage clothing, costumes and other random bits and pieces piled high up to the ceiling. There's a distinct musty smell to the place, a bit like an old loft, but that makes it a whole lot more interesting in my books. I like the idea that if you dig around for long enough you might unearth something that no-one's even seen for the last ten years. However, If you're looking for a quick and easy shopping experience, then this probably isn't the place for you.

I recently bought a vintage 1920's beaded silk chiffon dress for a wedding, it's so beautiful & I feel amazing wearing. What I love about the pieces from here is that every piece is unique so you know you'll be the only one wearing it! The shop is well worth a visit - the stock seems to change every week so theres always something new and exciting in there!

This is the very first Dorothy House charity shop, opened in 1988, and it's also the largest…read morecharity shop in Oldfield Park (and probably one of the largest in Bath). It houses a good range of women's clothes, a few men's items and loads of books and toys round the back. The prices are really good, much cheaper than some of the other shops in the area and the large size means that whenever you venture in, you're almost guaranteed to come out with something. I've found all kinds of bits and pieces from here over the years - books, pictures, electrical items, suit jackets, etc, etc. If you're in the area then it's definitely worth a look.

Then again, it's always the journey rather than the destination that appeals to me when it comes to charity shops. It's the hunt for the absolute bargain that no one else can copy that's the real thrill and, as such, it's always worth a visit here when you're doing the rounds. With Bath being so small, you can quite literally visit 20 such stores in a single morning, so check Pdsa next time you're around.
